Hello All,
I am considering at 2019 GX460 Premium w/ 28,410 miles. The seller agreed to let me take it to our local Lexus dealership for a pre-purchase inspection. Dealership confirmed in service date of 4/12/19 so ~5 months remaning on factory warranty. When I dropped it off for the inspection the Service Manager mentioned that he had not had been serviced by Lexus since the 5000mile service.
Would this service history concern you? Thanks in advance for any feedback! 2019 GX460 Page 1 of 3 2019 GX460 Page 2 of 3 2019 GX460 Page 3 of 3
Just because it did not get the oil changed at Lexus dealership does not mean the oil was not changed. Sent to auction is the more important flag. These things demand a premium used ... so dealerships avoiding is not a good sign.

^^^ This right there . Getting sent to auction at this early in its service life is a big red flag to me .
That is the route I decided to take. I paid a deposit on a '23 Luxury model today. I thought I wanted the Blackline in Nori Green but then I saw the new interior. More often than not I have my dog with me so the black interior works better for us. I have to decide on the few port options that are available by Friday to reserve a slot on their waiting list. Estimated wait 30-60days. I decided that I am going to "live while i'm young!" and go with the Luxury package to get the premium sound system, It's only rock n' roll, but i like it.
The '16 Acura MDX Tech shawd that I am replacing as my daily driver only has 62K on the odometer and I bought it new in July '15 when '16 models were first arriving at the dealership. With any luck these GX460 keys will be the keys that they take away and tell me someone will drive me from then on!
Thanks again for the advice. That's what I was already thinking I suppose I just wanted to hear it from unbiased car folks with no dog in the hunt so to speak.
Ditto - congrats on your purchase! What color? Just for whatever it's worth, after buying more new vehicles than I had any business owning over a few decades, I started buying Lexus CPOs and let someone else take the biggest depreciation hit from new. Also, personally, I like the dash - in particular the center stack - design before the current iteration. And, for me, maybe most importantly, I hate all the invasive nanny electronics that don't give you the option of turning them off. I can still turn the aggravating radar cruise control off on my 2017, so I can decide how close I want to get to the car in front of me before I brake - or don't brake. Now, if I can just figure out how to turn the damn seatbelt chime off...
I've never owned a Lexus before. I'm car shopping right now and I'm pretty sure I have it narrowed down to either a used Lexus GX460 or a Toyota Highlander. I'm looking at these two because I want a larger vehicle for road trips etc for my family. I don't do a ton of off roading but could be interested in it. I don't need a 3rd row but it is nice to have. I'm trying to keep it at 2014 and newer and 70k miles or less.
What are the advantages and disadvantages to owning a GX? I know about the fuel economy but I'm looking for a truthful summary of what ownership looks like. I'm looking to keep this car for the next 6-10 years ideally. What are the major pitfalls? Is the maintenance of a Lexus drastically different than that of a Toyota? Should I get a model with air suspension or not? If not, which trims have it and which trims don't?
Ownership for me now at 2years has been excellent. This is hands down the best Vehicle I've ever owned. I plan on keeping mine till the frame rots out. Which being in Texas won't happen for about 3 decades if I can help it.
Advantages
1) I would say is they are built like tanks. Everything is over engineered to last.
2) Relatively easy to work on. Same as Toyota essentially
3) Superb Offroad capability out the gate with room to kit it out however you want
Disadvantages
1) Terrible MPG
2) Lack of Storage with 3rd row up
3) Technology can be viewed by some to be Ancient
As far as the air suspension goes, if you're planning on upgrading the suspension later, and taking this off-road, I would not pay the extra for the luxury version with the air suspension. I'm learning that mistake now as I have a Luxury with Air Suspension and it's going to cost me extra money when I eventually get around to putting in a traditional suspension. Other than off-roading I feel the air Suspension does provide a better ride quality over stock.
