Is it only the Luxury trim that has the air suspension?

The technology (GPS, user interface, etc.) isn't necessarily important as long the vehicle has bluetooth capability which my currently 2011 Honda Pilot does not have built in. Are there any commonly thought of pitfalls to look for when purchasing? Obviously going to get a pre purchase inspection but not sure what to actually look out for? I've heard timing cover leaks could be an issue. Also, are there any years to avoid or that are looked upon less favorably due to maybe having an issue?

Thanks

Yes Luxury Trim has the Air Suspension.
As far as what to look for, if its used and depending on your area look out for frame rust. Id Check the Radiator and Water Pumps if you get one that has close to 100K miles.
Sometimes the paint can be an issue but that's usually on early 2nd Gen's 2010-2012 YM.
Id ask them when the last time the brakes were worked on was
As far as years to buy I would look for a 2017 or newer. 2017, 2019, and 2020 seem to be the most reliable years. Also, the newer Model years obviously have had the most recent visual refreshes so Long term they will look "Newer" for longer

140k on my OEM air suspension, no issues at all.

Check for repair history on the timing cover and coolant valley as these are two failures that can happen and be very expensive. Other than that, they are easy to work on and parts are pretty cheap.

"Air Suspension" is for leveling the rear when towing or carrying a payload in the vehicle ... nothing more ... has rear Air Bags versus traditional Springs ... so the "Spring Rate" can be adjusted by adding air to the rear air bags. It does not provide vehicle "Lift" ... with the front suspension being traditional springs.

I had both at one point this year. A ‘22 GX and ‘15 HL XLE. Both are capable suv. Never underestimate the capability and reliability of HL. It is not a rock crawler but it will get you where you need to go. HL feels more spacious than my GX. I had to let go of the HL this year after 127K miles and a long list of US National Parks 🏔️🏕️🚙
The GX looks better 😎

franco1903:

I considered a Highlander (and an FJ) when I was thinking about trading my 2008 GX470. I went with a GX460 instead of a Highlander because it sits, rides, looks, functions, and I expect has the durability of, a BOF "truck" vs. the Highlander being more like just a tall car. If I remember correctly, I paid about the same for my 2 year old GX as I would have for a new Highlander, but I feel like I got a LOT more in value, quality, durability and diversity with the GX.

Also, before I started buying Lexuses, I always had Cadillacs for chauffeuring clients and family, rather than making them ride in my Jeep or truck. To me, my GX470 Luxury rides every bit as nice as any of my Cadillacs ever did. I know ASE said the air suspension is only for leveling the rear when towing - and I'm not disputing what he says - he knows a LOT more about the mechanics than I do - but I think it also gives a MUCH nicer ride than the conventional suspension. Personally, I would only buy a Luxury if I had the option. Hope this helps.

Default package options

Hi. New to the forum. My first forum post.
I am looking at buying a used Lexus GX 460. A 2016, and a 2012. How can I determine what option package the car is equipped with? I have VIN#s. Is there an easy way to tell?

Any tips, advice, or helpful suggestions appreciated. I have 3 I am looking at in the 60k mile range.

Thanks!

Chris

Default Looking to buy a GX

Hello everyone!

I currently own an LS 460 and I have always wanted a bigger car. With that being said I am looking for some guidance on what kind of year /package I should be looking for? I don't drive many miles as my 2008 LS 460 just breached the 100k marker. I will not be doing any off roading or towing. I use my car for navigation and I do like a nice stereo system. I am thinking of looking for a new year with high miles. Would like to stay under 50k if possible. I probably did not give enough data for you guys to help so please ask any questions that I have missed.

USVRugby - Being as you are an LS owner and are wanting a bigger 'car' - I would suggest a Luxury or Luxury Sport. Just a few more features, and I personally think the included adjustable rear air suspension gives a little plusher ride if you select the "comfort" setting. I think there is another thread on the forum that lists what is included in each package by year. Also, depending on your aesthetic preference, the grille is different, of course, between 2010 to 2013, 2014 to 2019, and 2020 to current. But, you can save major bucks by buying at 2014 to 2019 and putting a 2020 grille on it if you like that look best. For me, the nanny controls are a major factor. I can still turn the radar cruise OFF on my 2017 Luxury, but in either 2018 or 2019 - sorry I do not remember which - they deleted the capability of doing that. I wouldn't buy one that does not allow me to turn that annoying crap off.

If you bump up to just under $60 you might be able to get a CPO LX570. That might be more of what you are looking for.

Default Should i buy an 15 with 54k on it?

I was driving a 2016 RX350 F Sport for 36 days before an accident which totalled my car. 😔

I will have $15k to play with after my payoff.

I can buy a 2015 GX 460 for $30k from the dealer where I work.

Was considering using 10k of the 15k for a down-payment and using the remaining 5k for any add-ons I may want... such as: window tinting and maybe an upgraded sound system.

Thoughts?

**Its either that or an 18 with 96k on it...**

Default Newbie considering Lexus

Hello Everyone,
Newbie here and I am considering a Lexus GX460. Specifically a 2018 GX but I have never owned one. I've only ever driven BMW X5's but mine is getting long in the tooth so I am looking to change. I started looking for a Land Cruiser, not a new one, but one a few years old and I stumbled across a 2018 460 with 32,000 miles. So I have some basic questions and things I (think) I know. There is the recall about the fuel pump and I dont know if it has been done. I am in Hawaii and we have no Lexus dealers, only Toyota. I think the car is the base model with a ton of options on it. the MRSP when new I think from the paperwork was around 57K. The dealer wants 50 and I told him to pound sand, then he threw out 45K but if that was that easy, I know he can go lower. The thing has an aftermarket Fabtech lift on it and it's clean in and out. So basically what I am looking for are red flags for it. Are there years I should stay away from. Any issues I should be aware of.
Thanks - I attached a photo of it.

Trying to decide if I should pull the trigger on it or not

What to look for if buying a used GX 460

to check if the vehicle has had the recall completed, run the vin number through lexusdrivers (you will need to make a free account)
