V8s are only above the 90k range now for Toyota Brand.

Thats fine, I assume the next gen GX, if there is one, would be receiving some kind of hi output hybrid turbo. Imagine a million mile turbo motor lol.

The GX's midsize & V8 combo will be a unicorn in about 5 years.
If any company can build a reliable hybrid powertrain it's Toyota. They've been doing it in volume for 20 years with the Prius so the Tundra Sequioa and Land Cruiser are in good hands.

All that being said the future is not V8 ICE engines and that's ok.

I have a reservation in on a Rivian, which will likely be my next vehicle (the GX is my wifes dd).

Well that has been speculated and expected for a while now right?

Although Toyota V8s are bullet proof engines, they are ancient and have bad gas mileage. I just hope the new V6 TT are as 80% reliable in the first few years, and become 99% reliable after that.

This is why I'll be holding on to my pair of Lexus V8's (GX460 and LS460) for many years to come!

Just cause I'm planning on an EV doesn't mean we're selling the GX. If I had to guess the wife will inherit/ takeover the Rivian as soon as she drives it. I'll get the GX for my daily... I'll be really happy either way.

With complexity driving the ever increasing cost of vehicles while making it close to impossible for the mechanically inclined to do their own maintenance ... with the majority of manufacturers now viewing repair manual information as proprietary (so require a license for access) ... my future strategy is pushing in the direction of reluctantly going electric for my close-to-home miles, and purchasing an original classic V8 Ford Bronco (or similar) where a factory replacement long-block can be had for not much more than the cost of many typical modern car repairs ... with the added benefit (in WA State) where classic cars (30+ Years) have "forever tabs".

While the V6 Twin-Turbo's have the numbers ... the added complexity for me is going in the wrong direction. I just bought a new 2019 GX460 for this very reason ... and would almost buy another before the V6 Twin Turbo is imposed.

I guess it was inevitable that Toyota has to go this way, but agree on the complexity of the newer vehicles.

At least our 2 GX should be good for 20-25 years and by that time in my life, I do think I will be working on my own cars.

Reminds me of coworkers who lease their BMW or Mercedes to avoid any mechanical repair expenses.

I think even if they designed a new NA V8 motor specifically purpose built to drop into the GX, it would be far more complex then our current 1UR. Its just the nature of the stringent standards that companies must adhere to. Thats before the introduction of the new ground up electrical foundation that any replacement GX (in this case) would have ( I assume here, who knows they might reuse the current systems).

In my view if Lexus is going the V6 TT or hybrid, bring it on. Hybrid tech is toyotas bread and butter so no issues there, TT or even the I4 from the NX so far has had no significant issues that make me question Toyota group engineering.

I would assume that most accessories would transition to an electrical setup rather then being mechanically driven.

Given the math on a typical BMW or Mercedes lease ... they are paying ... maybe not "repair expenses" in a literal sense, but they are paying either way ... so if it makes them feel better ... all semantics.

Agree that a (continued) V8 would be a more complex replacement design. On Hybrid's ... my attitude is Gas or Electric ... with Hybrid being an intermediate conglomeration that only adds (additional systems) complexity. Once Electric becomes viable ... meaning has real-world distance, with the charging station infrastructure to support ... Hybrid's will vaporize from a market standpoint. Yes, these overlapping time-frames will continue for many years ... but ...
