If this is the wrong place for this sorry in advance Acrad. However I have been watching alot of Overlanding Videos, and this one happened to come into my feed. While the vehicle used is the 470, the brands mentioned seemed to be relevant. Anyone feel the criticism in these videos on part of the seasoned host true today or are they outdated for times today and the 460 platform?

I think it's a lil of both... at the time this video was filmed, the overlanding industry was for the most part just getting started in the USA... As he eluded the companies that have been around the longest have learned a lot about what works and what hasn't the past decade....
I believe what he says about testing.. very few aftermarket offroad/overlanding shops invest in the FEA modeling of their designs and NDT quality checks of their manufactured products (these items cost money)
Also most are not mass producing these products (the demand simply isn't there) so the products are either hand welded or welded by machines not in a controlled atmospheric conditions...
This isn't to say there are a lot of great products made in the USA nowadays.... there are a lot.
When overlanding consider the absolutely minimum modification to your vehicle to accomplish the trip. Keep It Simple Stupid. People would be surprised the places they could go with a stock GX and good set of A/T Tires.
For example there are coolers nowadays that can hold food and drinks for 5 days with some dry ice or techni-Ice. Do ya really need that refrigerator and extra battery and wiring? likely not unless you're doing longer offgrid trips (just about anywhere you buy gas, you can buy ice to replenish a cooler). It looks the part though...
Do you need that roof top rack or awning strapped to it? likely not... all it does is suck gas and they are rarely used by the people that buy them. Have you ever tried to get something off the roof (especially a tire?!) what a pain in the ***, not to mention increasing the cg of the vehicle which decreases handling (especially in slow sleep situations) and gas mileage.
opinions on overlanding / offroading will vary greatly and everyone has one so find what you feel comfortable with and go for it.
