Default Dogs and Travel

Hi! I recently joined the GX club coming from an xterra. We just bought a 2018 GX with bucket seats in the rear. I'm trying to figure out the best way to travel with large dogs that will also protect the leather? The best I've come up with is some combination of things with individual seat protectors, or the seats down, etc. I was also wondering about maybe an inflatable device that goes between the bucket seats?

Let me know how you do it!

Thanks!

CanvasBack Liners. I dont have the buckets but they make liners that cover all of the seats independently, including the 3rd row. That way you can fold or move all of the seats independently.

https://www.canvasback.com/index.php...-cargo-liners/

If you want them to leave cut outs for the cargo hooks in the floor, you have to tell them in the order notes. I found this out the hard way. Why they don't put it in as an option on the page is stupid when they already ask 3 questions about your 2nd row, 3rd row, and AC setup.

Thanks! I just came across canvasback.Probably the way to go, but still trying to figure out what to do about the gap between the captains chairs... May just have to get some moving blankets or something to stuff between them.

sjz,
I have the NAC&ZAC SUV Pet Barrier from Amazon, in size large. It works well enough and will cover the gap between captain's chairs, but our dog can still pop his head through at either side to slobber on passenger's shoulders.

I made a few modifications to the mounting system for simple removal and better fit. The hooks included with it work, but are a big hassle to adjust correctly and come unhooked pretty easily.

I had considered a cargo net initially, but this is much easier to see through and is still strong enough to keep the hound in the back. I would not use it for securing cargo, however.

Thanks for sharing Boogybear. Thats a good option. I'm not sure the wife will want to keep them in the way back though..

This
canvas cargo liner canvas cargo liner
from Amazon works fantastic and is literally the perfect size for our GX460. Works well with the seats up or completely folded down. Since you have the captains chairs, probably find a tote that fits between the chairs to act as a platform. The extra benefit of the cover above is the back end folds down to cover the rear bumper so dogs won't scratch it when climbing in. Also nice when you stop at a random garage sale and pick up a piece of furniture.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and follow ups. We ended up just using a large (24"x24") pillow stuffed between the two chairs and a dog hammock connected to the front seats. Ended up working really well!
