If I had to pick a brand new car on lease, it would be the Defender. $70k for the Lexus GX is laughable for what you get. Its nice, but it honestly gets blown out of the water by anything remotely in its price range at this point. Even an F150 or Ram 1500 has a nicer interior. Very few people actually need a body on frame solid axle suv so its a very niche vehicle in my eyes. And if I really wanted to wheel my truck, I wouldnt be going out and buying a brand new 2021 GX.
The GX is a good deal for a used vehicle in my eyes, considering mine dropped to 1/3 its original value and has not changed much, but I don't think I would ever buy one new when looking at all the other options on the market. My 2014 F150 cost $20000-30000 less than a new GX would, is just as nice inside, has way more power, way more functionality, and is worth more than my GX is now.

... $70k for a GX460 ? ... only if you buy the "Luxury" and pay full retail price. Try $50k for a "Premium" and lose the worthless options. If one is enamored with the latest "shiny objects" then live with the consequences. CarPlay is an awesome feature when sitting on the side of the road when waiting for the tow vehicle.

exactly! 50k for a vehicle that will last forever is a bargain (if you treat the undercarriage with FF or Krown), especially when you consider what a Traverse or an Explorer goes for.

So buy a Defender and report back in 2-years.

The cheapest lexus within 500 miles of my house is $58k. Even if it was $50k it is still not a great deal.

But the OP is asking about a lease for 3 years. I really don't think he cares if it goes 500k miles. Hell, I don't care if mine goes 500k miles because ill be 100 years old by then.

Still waiting for feedback from someone who has a lived experience (short or long) with both vehicles, or just the Defender but has had GX/LX in the past
WRT costs in Canada, assuming 20,000km a year:
WRT costs in Canada, assuming 20,000km a year:
- GX
- $77K base price (executive option takes it to $83K)
- 3-year lease payments are about $1300 taxes in ($1400 for executive). $0 down
- Dealer residual is 52% (I am confident actual will be higher than that and I can probably leverage the gap in residual value when it comes time for a new vehicle)
- Defender 110
- ~$90k for the model I'm looking at (X-Defender SE or HSE)
- 3-year lease payments are about $1500 taxes in. $0 down
- Residual is 60%

I know someone that just bought a brand new $110k+ Range Rover and had to return it within a week because he had an issue and the dealership couldn't fix it in a timely manner. They offered him another new model and just asked for a refund. And that's their top of the line model.
The Defender is a gorgeous car, but not putting up with that kind of reliability, especially on a "new" model that will probably have all sorts of issues.
Also, this shouldn't be a factor, but I feel anything Land Rover has a sort of douchey, poseur vibe about it.

(also given how new the Defender is, and given that this is a GX forum, I doubt there will be too many here who have purchased a defender who can answer your direct question. For your viewing pleasure

I own a 21 GX. Had to rent a car last week and rented Land Rover Sport supercharged, 20,000 miles. WOW power, sport feel! Day 2 the enitre dashboard went dark and folded up as I was driving - 6 separate times! No radio, no loghts, no signals, nothing, I recorded video to prove it to the rental company. I loved the LR and years ago almost bought one, but really?!!? I wouldn't trust it for any long distand or remote trips only to and from work. Beautiful vehicles, I knew they had a history of issues maybe electrical issues but dam.
