2010-2013 OEM Radio, Stereo, Navigation Problems, Questions, Updates

Did you ever get your radio fixed? We have a 2010 that had a radio that did the same thing. We ended up replacing it with a refurbished unit. Ours would stop going through its possessed actions if we turned the tuning **** one click to the left or right.

well on the last trip i took out the CD. I haven't driven it much since due to waiting on the secondary air system valve to get in. the wife did just go on around a 300 mile trip and she said it did not happen. same trip last time it happened 3 times i think. time will tell. LS43Nole, where did you get your refurbished unit and how much. Im sure i won't be buying one, i can't believe it would be cheap.

And yet everyone bashes German vehicles on this forum about how unreliable and expensive they are to fix when the warranty runs out.
I'm a believer in Japanese quality, but it shows that all manufacturers have their problems.
I realize the OPs vehicle is out of warranty, but if the head unit cost even half of the $9,000 I would be seeking out someone from Lexus to help fix the problem at a reasonable cost.
This is why in my 42 years of owning vehicles I've only owned two out of warranty.

I purchased a 2010 GX back in Dec-2015, I just started to experience a "Pwr/Vol" **** issue. The **** will turn the radio power on and off when pushed, but the **** no longer adjusts the volume of the radio when turned. I have to use the steering wheel volume controls to adjust volume.
From what I'm reading this is resolved by changing out the entire "Nav/Entertainment/AC control" unit. Wow, that's a bummer, as those units are crazy expensive new, or you are forced to buy an Ebay unit and take your chances...
Has anyone found a source for refurbished units?
Do you have to replace the unit with the same model year, or can I take this opportunity to upgrade to a newer model year unit and new software (i.e. swapping my 2010 unit for a 2014 unit)?
Has anyone successfully done this?

I have a 2010 premium with ML sound. Same thing has happened to me at least 2 times. I notice it happens when it is really hot outside. I'm in Houston, so we frequently have those days when it gets super hot. When I turn the car on, the radio will spit out any dvd/CD it has and then seems to go back to normal.
$9,000 is absurd for the radio. I don't know why this system is so different than the older ML system in the 470. The 470 system was the best OEM sound systems I've ever heard. Deep rich base w/o being muddy and the high's her not tinny....I find the new 460 ML upgrade laughable. Its void of any depth at all, especially when you use satellite. Plus the sound seems so concentrated in the front center. Ive never heard the base sound system, but hate to hear what thats like.

GX460 without OEM navigation. Can OEM or aftermarket be retrofitted
Long time member here...haven't posted in a lonnnnnnnnnng time.
friend of mine is getting a GX460. we found a nice one but to our surprise doesn't come with navigation. Kind of strange to find such a car without nav. didn't think any gx460 would come w/o nav. never seen it before. it has a small tiny screen for backup camera only.
anyways, was wondering if retrofitting an OEM nav into it is a possibility. plug an play?
thanks for any advice

Wow, that's a unicorn right there! Perhaps more common in Canada?
Would likely be more trouble than it's worth. That whole center console would have to change. Far easier to find a better optioned GX.
Also the OEM nav isn't that great. It's not bad, but I wouldn't spend thousands to install it if I didn't already have it. On a road trip, I used waze on my phone instead of the factory nav.

I agree, more trouble than its worth. Even if it is prewired you may still be missing other components. If this GX is the best option get a nice aftermarket Nav or as Craigyyy suggested use Waze and get traffic, road hazards and police notifications
If he is really wanting this GX with OEM Nav, I would suggest pulling the unit off and look for the needed connectors and take it from there.

I don't know exactly if you could plug and play the OEM Nav/AC/Stereo unit but I will say that it wouldn't be cheap. I had a '08 GS350 where someone decided to steal the OEM Nav/AC/Stereo unit. The replacement cost when insurance priced it out was about $7,600 for the Navigation/AC unit and another $4,200 for the stereo (total of $11,800). You might be able to get a used one for less but just wanted to give you a rough ballpark of what the OEM might cost.

Not sure if this is any consolation, but I have the navigation system in my GX and I do not even use it. It's old and not as user friendly as what I already have on my phone or my separate Garmin unit. It's there as an absolute last resort.

I did have Lexus redo the firmware in it back in April. my wife just text me and said it did it twice on the way into town. I guess I'm going to email the service manager back now.
