If you use a line to prevent hitting something then yes, useless. I have never seen any lines on a screen that do anything to prevent contact.
If you use the lines to get the vehicle parallel with the parking stripes, then very useful.
OEM lines represents the width of the car. In GX situation, the light blue lines indicate the width from two out edges of rear view mirrors. Therefore, in tight parking situation, if you can fit the lines in a space, you are safe to go.

Ah now I understand the comment, I don't have lines and I didn't know about that.
So for someone used to the OEM GX lines, these aftermarket lines could actually facilitate a crash into something based on not being the same OEM width while the driver was expecting the same.
For someone that has never had them, maybe for the parallel alignment they are ok.
There has to be a way to add the grid lines. I drive Ford Explorers for work and the grid lines are great and useful. I obviously can park without them but it’s better to have them than not have them.
as soon as I started the car to go home today the infotainment unit would not come up. It kept trying to come up but then goes away. Once in a while it would give me sound but about 3 seconds later it seem to reboot again. I turned off the car several times and restarted it but no luck. Anyone had this happen to them? I will try again tomorrow to see if it works. This sux.

Which model year is your GX? for 2014+, you can also try to hold the volume/power dialer for 10 seconds to hard reset the unit. Not sure if it is the same for 2010 to 2013 models.

Tried to reset the unit this morning and nothing. Pulled the ground cable off the battery and played with the microSD card. Now the screen says "a program could not be read, please consult to a dealer"
Hzhao, do you think this is a lower unit (navigation) problem? This seems to be a corrupt file that the system tried to boot with but not able to. Is there a way to connect to the unit to update it manually?

It is the lower half of the unit. The up part just the display control unit. You maybe can try to get a new microSD card from Dealer (as part of Nav version and map data update for $199) and try to see if it initiate the unit, but if your rebooting is from onboard ROM as part of startup, then there is not really much you can do. Good luck and I feel the pain for you.
I know they don't specifically mention '14+ but may want to reach out to this company if you decide to go repair route to see if they can offer anything as well
