2010-2013 OEM Radio, Stereo, Navigation Problems, Questions, Updates

Koz ... let me guess ... you bump the **** with your right knee and turn the audio system on or off, right?
It typically happens during maneuvering when I swing my leg to the right to brace against the center console. I could adjust my driving position so I sit further back, but I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with this complaint ... thanks!

2011 GX 460 satellite radio activation/help me
I recently bought a 2011 GX 460 in San Juan, Puerto Rico Lexus Dealer. When I ask the service dept. to help me activate the satellite radio they told me that they dont know how to do this. When I go to the touch screen I find the command for satellite radio but nothing happens when I touch the screen. Does somebody can help me to know how you did it, or any similar situation.
Meanwhile at Lexus Dealer a vey complex explanation was given to me, and that they will consult to Lexus.

Updating Navigation Maps on GX460
I received an email the other day from Lexus indicating that it was time to update the map on my vehicles at the cost of $170 per vehicle. Is there a cheaper way to do this or I have no alternative but through the dealer? Can I download the maps from somewhere else and then update it via the DVD? Thanks for any input.

The Stealer must update via download to hard drive. I find there is no need to update every year. Unless you travel as part of business and you need current POIs or other current data I have gone several years without any problems. With the HIGH cost of OEM nav systems they SHOULD give lifetime map updates. You can buy cheap aftermarket units and they come with lifetime updates. The cost of updating IMHO is one of the reasons I use the term "Stealers"!

And the garmins work better and are much more intuitive than the toyota nav.
Completely backasswards in the way things are set up. All things that could have been easily changed prior to release. Should have had me use it first. I'd have set them straight.

Each system has their pros and cons but the OEM system IMHO is the best. The OEM system links into the vehicles computers allow continued coverage when signal is lost (steering angle, speed, etc) and you can't beat eDestination and screen size. Also having voice command on all the other features (audio system, climate controls, etc). It's just a shame they nickel and dime you for free options that come with aftermarket units (traffic, map upgrades, etc).

One thing I don't like the OEM system is that you cannot search POIs while driving. I understand it is a safety/liability thing. But it is extremely inconvenient. When traveling I often need to figure out which exit to take off the highway, based on gas stations, stores, or restaurants.
