@ObsidianBl Haha..
More inclined to get the MR150, visually it's more appealing. TRD bronze wheels would be of higher quality and my local toyota dealer is running a sale on them, but visually it's not that good as MR150's, personal opinion.
How are the 275's on your rig? did u tackle any rubbing? Can you post some pics with the new F sport wheels.
I agree with you on the wheel choice. I prefer the trd in black, but black on black doesn’t provide enough contrast for me. I like black and bronze for sure. The OEM trd bronze looks nice but not outstanding like white on black trd that I see.
I prefer the looks of the mr150 (my other choice were the Konig six shooters from FN) and don’t think you’ll go wrong either way. I never heard of Motegi until recently but from what I read that brand is popular in other car groups. I don’t like the “trail lite” branding on the spokes.
how much is your local dealer selling the trd bronze for? I wish Toyota did another sale like last year where they were around 130 a wheel shipped (40th anniversary sale)
As for my wheels and tires, I haven’t Had a chance to put them on. I got them last weekend and have been busy since. I think tomorrow will be the day I’ll install them unless the honey do list gets updated.
@ObsidianBl True, I have a black truck so bronze as contrast looks good. I went ahead and ordered MR150 Bronze and Wildpeak 265/70R17, the MR 150s are out of stock and are expected to arrive at the beginning of Nov. MR's are a hybrid cast n forged manufacturing, the outer face is casted whereas the main barrel is forged using the flow forming process thereby making the wheel stronger and lighter. These MRs even being a 17 X 8.5 are 25lbs which is slightly less than narrower TRD 17 X7 ones.
I have seen few folks on the GXOR instagram page have the MR150's on their rig and really liked them. That was my 1st time hearing about the Motegi's
My local toyota dealer has the TRD bronze wheels for around 178$ with a MSRP of 215$. 130 is steal deal if toyota get its out again, I have heard from 88Rotors that toyota is limiting the export of these TRD wheels to the North America as they are coming up with a new design.
Update for those interested, I had the 275/65R18 Hankook's AT2 F11's installed today, so far they rode beautifully on the 3 mile drive home (no highway yet). Also ZERO rubbing, I did remove the "notorious bolt" and replaced it with a flat headed bolt prior to having the tires installed, in addition to this and out of an abundance of caution (this is my wife's car) I also did the "zip-tie trick" though I am unsure if its really even needed with this size tire, If i did it again I would have just done the bolt first and seen if that was enough.
This said, these tires make the GX finally look like a real SUV and not the soccer-mom mobile (that it is) no decriable acceleration loss, they are of course a bit louder than the stock Bridgestone Dulers but the new Hankook's ride much more planted on the road.
As for the looks, the GX should have come this way stock, best tire size you can buy for these, highly recommended! Now i just need to get the front windows tinted and she's done.
BBQSoup: Thanks and yes, they also turned on the Sun today! Thank god the started street sweeping again this summer, the streets were an absolute mess during the depths of COVID. 4Runner is my wife's old car (my new car) it can finally get some mods other than tires and a pedal commander!
LokiGX: I actually just had some stainless steel motorcycle screws laying around, on side had a little hex bolt and the other was a receiving nut that happened to have a little washer on it so it allowed it to be tightened down. This being said, any small flat bolt from Home Depot and a bolt that fits it would work. I would first pull the screw yank out the plastic receiving thing Toyota/Lexus puts in there and then you'll really easily see what you need in terms of hardware to buy. if you want i can take a photo of what I used and post it.
Just a quick update on the 275/65R18 Hankook AT2 RF11's these are phenomenal tires so far, ride a bit more quietly than the ATM RF10's we have on our 2014 4Runner Limited and definitely have better road manors! In addition to the tires being excellent, I am also loving the size on a stock height GX, still no rubbing to speak of, we have about 600 miles of mixed highway and city and have not had a single issue with rubbing (even with my wife driving!) They fill the wheel wells perfectly and I have received a few thumbs up from 4Runner and Landcuriser guys!
Nice. Can you please get more photos, especially at FULL-LOCK? Thanks.
Are you looking for more photos of my rig with the 275/65R18's or someone else's?
I don't have any off hand but can take some in the next few days, this being said there are about 2 fingers of space between any obstruction throughout the wheel turning in the wheel well.
My BFG KO2 265/65R18s (mentioned in OP's first post) have rubbed off my entire fender liner. More details in a post in the main forum.
Thanks Chburrus, it looks like you found out your tires were not the culprit based on the below thread, just trying to keep information current! Chburrus - Solved Issue - not Tire Related
