I've looked through all of my FSMs and this step is not mentioned. Is it just a rubber grommet that pops out? Do you have a pic of the white clip?

the white clip is under the rubber grommet. i think i figured it out. there are two small hooks on either end of the white clip.
hopefully i can get it out before tearing up the paint.

so i got it out, i stupidly used my screw driver instead of the trim tool i had laying next to it.
