Looking on subsequent responses, not much context on climate. Minneapolis in the Winter versus Phoenix in the Summer is quite a range for anyone to logically argue that a fixed multi-grade range is sufficient for adequate protection in these extreme environments. Using 0w-20 anywhere and everywhere ... Hmmmmm.

Why would anyone deviate from what Lexus recommends? They tested the vehicle in various climates from deserts to sufficiently cold places. If there were engine failures due to oil thickness, they would have change something. I'm just assuming the engineers that engineered, built and developed these vehicles would know what they are doing, most of the time, and what the vehicle needs.

As mentioned before in this post, 0w-20 is for CAFE...

The same engine is approved for 15w-40 for temps above 10F.

For my personal choice, I do not run a 20 weight oil in my two GXs because I want a higher level or protection during my 5k mile OCI.

No one said anything about failures ... all about engine longevity, with the Lexus vested interest ceasing after the warranty period.

The wear numbers even at the 1784 change were excellent compared to other engines

Your front and rear diff and TC are just as important as the engine IF you're going to be keeping this forever.
Did you inspect the fluid and filter during your oil changes? I had the first oil change at the dealer done at 860 mi on the ODO. There were metal shavings in filter and in the oil. Dealer said this is normal due to engine break-in. I changed the oil again at 1,846 mi and noticed some metal shavings in oil and filter but less than what was shown to me at the dealer. I did another oil change at 3,813 mi on the ODO and there were no metal shavings I noticed in the filter but the oil had very fine metal shavings in the oil. I've include a picture below of what I'm referring to. I have sent the oil to Blackstone today for their input and analysis and plan on taking the car for its 2nd complimentary service next month. (I did an initial Blackstone analysis at the first oil change of 860mi, but did not do one on 1,846mi) Report from the 860 mi included below. I bought this car with the intention to last a very long time and I'm concerned with the oil that came out. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
