Default URD Y Pipe

Hey Gang - been awhile since I've posted, has anyone here snagged one of the Y pipes from URD and put it on their GX? Curious if there was any noticeable difference in noise (it's my wife's ride, don't want it super loud), power and/or MPG?

Well, I went ahead and bought one last night. I've been wanting to put the GX on my brothers dyno (mostly for ****s and giggles), but due to corona-AIDS I won't get a chance until Christmas when I visit family in PA...so stay tuned...

Follow-up with the install and let us know if its worth losing the catalytic converter for this. I've been wanting a little more power out of the GX as well.

I’m interested in power gains and hopefully it makes a nice rumble sound 👍

Not yet, looks like it'll be on my brother's dyno on 12/23 or 12/24 - I'll update the thread with some videos and dyno graphs as soon as it happens.

Subscribed... with the recent addition of the GX to OV Tune's new platform, this might make for a solid combo for a nice lil ~30hp (IMHO) bump.

My brother has an Alientech tuner (https://www.alientech-tools.com/en/kessv2/) - and the KTag for bench reading - that he does all of his tuning with, we may play around with that while on the dyno.

Right on - still happening today or tomorrow? Looking forward to seeing some results! Was playing with bench calcs last night, and GX vs GS/LS application of the 1UR-FE is a difference of ~15% or 45hp, with peak power coming at 6400rpm on the GS/LS vs. 5500 on our GX's. In theory, torque equal between them, the higher revs alone account for 10% of the power difference (~30hp). Multiply in the 5% difference between rated torque, and you've got your remaining 15hp. I'm betting a great deal of this flow restriction is in the factory y-pipe alone. Between this URD part and tune, we could be looking at even more than 45hp.

Yep, it's going down tomorrow; will have some videos and pics by tomorrow evening.

Dyno day is finally here...

Stock dyno:

240hp/283tq - nothing to get too excited over.

Yanking out the stock y-pipe:

I thought I took a photo with the new y-pipe in, but apparently not, I'll take a picture when I'm back home in NC and have it on the lift at my house.

Last Dyno with URD Y pipe:

245hp/278tq - negligible difference, probably not worth getting the Y-pipe just for performance, but it does offer way better ground clearance and the fitment was fine.

A few things to note:
1. we couldn't read the ECU with the Alientech KESS, and we didn't have time to yank the ECU and bench read it, but next time I come to PA to visit family, I'll pull the ECU and bring it with.
2. the GX runs pig rich (we forgot to hook up the AFR on the stock pulls), but it was in the 10's and low 11's after about 4 pulls with the Y-pipe installed; some easy HP for the taking just by leaning it out.
3. I suspect the factory exhaust manifolds are the biggest performance inhibitor in the stock setup (much like the 3UR - I had a 2008 Tundra with the JBA long tube headers, woke that truck right up!).
4. noise isn't much different before and after, slightly more noise in the cabin in uphill highway pulls, otherwise I didn't notice any real difference.
5. the GX downshifts like crazy, even in manual mode, so the dyno graphs are from 3500 to 5700, we had to run through the prior gear and then do the pull right as it shifted
6. the power does drop off in the last 500 rpm with the URD Y-pipe, again the header seem to be the cork in all of that.

I realize this is a Lexus site, but since my brother let me play on the dyno for free, I have to give his shop a plug - anyone here with a BMW in or near York, PA (or really anywhere) go see these guys:
