Default Newby Tire Questions

Just traded a 2007 4Runner for a 2021 GX460 Premium with 265 60R 18 Michelin Latitude Tour HP.

Need feedback on:

1) What is advantage of 18" vs 17" rim? Is 18" better on road and 17" better off-road? I drive mostly on-road with road trips on some dirt roads and light snow.

2) Anyone running General Grabber APT?

3) How are Michelin LTX M/S different from OEM?

Thanks

Thanks

On 3: Those Michelin’s are awesome!: they are quiet, great in snow (I was one of the few making it up a very slick snow-packed hill —with ease— in a storm that basically closed down St Louis a few years ago), and am going to get close to 70k miles out of them.

For #1, a smaller rim is preferred off road since you have more sidewall rubber for the same height of tire (better for grip when aired down). For on road it's a wash regarding performance. Bigger rims arguably support a bigger braking system, and maybe less sidewall fix with cornering, but for a GX I don't think you'll notice any difference between 17 and 18 on road.
