Default Cutting the Lexus Cargo Rubber Mat in Half?

Has anyone tried cutting the Lexus all weather cargo mat in half so that when you lift one of the 3rd row seat, it will just be part of the actual seat? Maybe using velcro to keep it stuck on the back of the seat?

Assuming it's the same as Weathertech or Husky and has lipped edges, then by cutting it down the middle you eliminate the "all weather" aspect of it since dirt/mud/snow/water/etc. will be able to run down between the seats rather than staying put in the rubber tray.

Cut my previous GX460 all weather mat right down the middle due to a bass tube on the rear driver side & a need to once & a blue moon use the third row...

Used a very sharp razor & lined up the mat with the gap in the 3rd row & came out great with no issues!!

& once I sold that GX I sold the whole weather mat set with no problems...

Well isn't that quite a nice addition! Thanks for pointing it out. How well does it hold up?

EDIT: did not see that it was already linked above.
Here is the link for those interested:

I don't know if cutting the mat is a good idea, but I will share a hack that is useful if you ever have to cut rubber. Spray WD-40 on your blade and it will cut rubber like butter. Don't even need a sharp blade. I had to cut some mats to go under our winter pool cover, and bought thick restaurant mats. Worked like a charm.

Yes this is a pain. I usually take the mat out and leave in garage when I need to use the 3rd row.

Default Cargo mats

Just got a 2017 GX base model without 3rd row ac. I want to get a rear all weather cargo mat but they only list ones for GX with 3rd row ac.

Two questions
1. Will the mat still fit w/o 3rd row ac?
2. Does the oem carpet mat have a backing to keep liquids from seeping through?

1. The mat for the triple AC system is smaller width wise so it would fit with gaps on both sides. (Weathertech sells both size cargo liners).
2. The stock carpet mats have a backing but I don't know how long they would keep a liquid from seeping through.
