Default Will 2020 4Runner Suspension Fit 2013 gx460

I have a 2013 gx460 and looking at possibly getting suspension off a 2020 TRD with less than 2k miles (for $300). My car has almost 130k miles and don’t think the suspension has been replaced at any point. I don’t need anything special, just looking to keep things more or less the same.

Not even sure if it's a good deal at $300. I was going to look into dobinsons but those run $1350 before assembly even.

Rears- 48530-35161

Thx...
Found a different option cheaper-shipped.

The only issue I see, even if fitment is right. The weight difference between the vehicles is abit. I think the GX is about 600 lbs heavier?
How that works out front//back and referenced to valving.??

I am in the same boat (2013) and there is either Tokico (stock) or KYB GR2. Which is specific to vehicle. But stock height and performance.

Either Bilstein 4600 or 5100. But based on 5th Gen 4 Runner part numbers. So your back to the weight issue.?

Good luck

On the last generation of GX it basically lined up 100%, not sure on this generation, but my guess is most likely.

Easiest way to confirm would be to go to a place like RockAuto and see if the part numbers match. So if a front strut for the same year 4 Runner has the same part number as the front strut for the same year GX, you know that specific part will work. And just go down the list.

But I honestly don't think $300 is that great of a deal for used suspension parts. I also don't think you're going to be happy with a stiff ride. 4 Runners can have a stiff ride just stock, a TRD suspension I would imagine is worse.

The part numbers DO NOT match up on R/A or Shockwarehouse for the Bilsteins. (4600/5100)

Only the OEM (of course) Tokico and the aftermarket KYB-GR2's line up.

Buuuut the rear shock for KYB ( KYB 349185) is the same for both 2013 vehicles.
So there is that.

The part numbers also line up on the Bilstein "Off Road" shocks. $$ Front/Back.
That in itself is telling there is crossover. But that's not an apples-apples comparo for D/D apps.

It's the front struts/shocks that comes into question. There are different part numbers for the KYB.
Due to weight? Product application? Longevity?

Also Tokico stopped making struts for cars in 2019:

In 2019 Hitachi spun Tokico off into its own company and sold the ownership stake to an investment fund.
Now they spend 100% of their time on making pumps for gas stations.

It seems to be that Hitachi is the OEM now for Toyota.

So back to the TRD shocks. They will probably fit.? They will likely perform the job? But will it last and will you be happy with the performance and feel of the product? That the $300 question.

If anybody has installed the Bilsteins on the 460 and has the part numbers and some real world input on the swap, that would be great.

Cheers

One would think that front of the GX bears more weight because of the V8 vs the six in the 4R

Ok more info:

Eibach GX460 specific: https://eibach.com/us/c-56-car-truck-suv.htmlGX 460

Eibach:
GX460
Front E60-59-005-01-10

Rear E60-82-008-02-01

GX470

Front: E60-59-005-01-10

Rear: E60-82-008-02-01

4Runner//FJ Cruiser

Pro Truck

Front: E60-82-071-01-10

Rear: E60-82-008-01-01

Pro Truck Sport

Front: E60-82-071-02-10

Rear: E60-82-008-02-01

So by cross checking the 4Runner/FJ/GX460/GX470 there is definitely some commonality to it. (based on 2013 vehicles)
The 460 and 470 use the exact same shock/strut. Good. So conversely if that is true. What fits the 470 in Bilstein should fit the 460.??YMMV.

The 4Runner and FJ are the same. No surprises there.

Back looking at the numbers for the Pro Truck and Pro Truck Sport. Notice the difference in numbers.
The Pro Truck is a OE replacement and the Pro Truck Sport is firmer/adjustable. It comes down to the 001 vs 002.

So our GX's use a Pro Truck front strut and Pro Truck sport rear shock firmness. Interesting.
I called Eibach and inquired about the 2 levels of shocks. The guy was helpful but not knowledgeable to a specific degree on the differences.
He implied the "sport" shock is definitely firmer. To what degree or how (fluid/valving/gas pressure?) he didn't know.

So unlike the Bilsteins 4600/5100 comparo which are supposedly the same shock but the 5100 is adjustable. The Eibachs are different.

So for the GX app. We get a front strut that is adjustable but like a 4600 in ride.? But the rear shock is adjustable but setup firmer. Probably to accommodate the heavier vehicle. Ordered and will update when they get installed.

Cheers
MJ

The rep did say the Pro Truck Sport line is being phased out.

I recently bought the suspension from a 2022 4runner in a package deal I was looking for the upper control arms which are the same part number as on the GX460.
I obtained
4runner front
48510-35440
4runner rear
48530-3251

I have read that rear shocks bushings need to be modified.

Bring this back up.

I have 2021 GX460 and the toytec suspesion just exploded. Need something new. Looking at the new OME MT64. Does the 5th Gen 4runner kit fit the GX460?

What about weight? Is the V8 that much heavier than the 4runner V6? Should I compensate with different front springs?

^ the above threads fixate on the shocks ... I'm pretty sure both the Bilstein 4600's and 5100's are the exact same part number between the vehicles ... easy to verify ... so the valving is the exactly the same ... at least for Bilstein as a reference.

The bigger factor is the Spring Rate ... 600-lb for the 4-Runner and 730-lb for the GX given the weight difference ... according to Dobisons.

Also, Toyota paints color codes on the OEM springs to designate the (slightly) different Left / Right spring rates ... for non KDSS ... to compensate for the drivers side lean.

So it sounds like if I want to run the 5th gen 4runner MT64 kit, I should use the standard weight rear springs and medium duty fronts if I want to compensate for the GX460 extra weight? Or am I misunderstanding?
