how do you know when it’s failing or operating incorrectly? Besides the obvious overheating (which it isn’t doing). I assume on a 2017 it’s not as likely? But I also have 90k miles which is higher.
What I recall is if it freely spins cold it has probably failed and won't allow for cooling .......a good clutch IIRC is only like 1/4 turn when spun by hand cold.
Finally we found the noise that was driving us crazy. We thought it was the rear end or bearings. The sound was traveling to the mid/back section of the truck.
is a Fan Clutch. Anyone else has dine this repair.?
I noticed mine has staying on a lot longer on cold starts for the last 2-3 months or so. I replaced with a new OEM unit this morning and also replaced my drive belt at the same time.
A couple of these long handled wrenches and a long screwdriver and was able to get the fan clutch nuts off (12mm)
I could tell right away on start it fixed it. It settled down to disengaged within a minute... didn't time it. It's a frozen morning and I was having to get it over 2500 RPM or so on cold mornings for it to disengage.
Did you go actual OEM or Aisin? Mine is still going strong at 141k, but I bought the Aisin unit to be installed with the water pump and a few other items...
