First off I apologize if this is a stupid question. 2012 base, 104k miles. I had the oil changed, not at my preferred place, and I didn't realize that 0W-20 came in synthetic blend option and they used that instead of the full synthetic.
1. The engine is considerably louder now esp 1 to 2k rpms. I'd say at least 150%, possibly twice as loud in that range. It isn't as significantly louder over 2.5k but still noticeable. I also noticed that the oil level is slightly above max after reaching running temps.
2. I've driven maybe 600 miles to see if it would subside, it hasn't and I'm going to get it changed again with full synthetic at my trusted place very shortly.
Could the blend explain such a difference? I know volume level perceived isn't a DB rating and I could potentially be incorrectly judging but it is def louder.
Should I ask my trusted shop to check for anything? Any other ideas?
Appreciate any advise and thanks in advance.

Just throwing this out there but wonder if your fan clutch is sticking in the engaged mode? If so...could be just coincidence with the oil change. I am doubtful oil types, blends and brands would have that big of an impact on engine noise.
You could check your fan with vehicle off and cold. Does it allow you to turn it all? Normal I think is like 1/4 to 1/3 spin.

engines make sounds in many ways. by louder, is that meaning a tick or knock? sound out the exhaust? The fan staying on? Some vibration or rattle? Too much oil can be a bad thing. sometimes too much will let it hit parts that drag it up into air, then creates this bubbly slush which prevents oil for working properly. also you could get high pressures and cause blow by, seal leaks, etc. I spose it could cause knock but I've not experienced that.

It appears it is indeed the fan clutch. Thanks for the help. Getting quotes for replacement, I found the part online for $188, I have little experience wrenching, gonna get a quote from the dealership.

It happens at cold start during idle mildly, but it’s ALWAYS there from 0-20 MPH acceleration, then turns off like a switch is flipped. It’s a loud fan/air noise. It’s not related to the AC, and does it whether AC is on or not. Is this normal part of 4.6? Is a blower motor or something else bad or clogged? It’s a 2017.

It’s normal and I hate it. It’s so loud it drowns out my exhaust. I wish we could make it quieter.

sounds good when cruising at higher speeds, but light to light forget it 😂. May need to also do resonator delete to out loud the vacuum cleaner, but then I’ll have to deal with rasp and drone.

Exactly. The exhaust on our 470 causes a ton of drone. I’m hoping I can find a solution on our 460 to get a little more noise but no drone.

I had my Magna Flow installed around 100K miles ago and I swear it has gotten louder, drones a bit while accelerating if rpm is maintained.
