There are stock skid plates at the front that cover the engine and front diff, but nothing behind that. There are lots of aftermarket products that offer beefier engine covers as well as for the rest of the undercarriage. There's also a small rock shield in front of the fuel tank that covers the first third of the tank. Nothing I would consider a skid plate, but enough to stop small rocks.
Unless you're planning to use your GX as a dedicated off trail (and by this I mean anything worse than a fire road) there is no reason at all to buy anything more than factory skids for any other reason to feed one's ego... the factory skids are more than ample for 99.5% of applications outside offroading over rocky terrain or paths with severe breakover angles...
the full length gas tank skid a solid oem upgrade for some additional protection. I would encourage if going this route to check out the 4runner forum or craiglist. you can often pick up a takeoff gas skid from a 4Runner offroad that is the same part number and bolts right up for full length OEM coverage. this is what I did, cheap and easy protection.
If you change your own oil and filter Budbuilt makes for some easy oil filter changes. No need to go full length if you don't see yourself going off-road. The front Budbuilt skid can coexist with mid-OEM skid but it does leave a small gap.
If you do go with 3rd party skids over transfer case it can afford you the option to make CAT theft more difficult. Not impossible but increases odd thief would move on.
@Acrad posted the correct part# on one of his many posts that helped me find them from an online Lexus parts dealer. Had to provide VIN in order to complete the order (got a call back from the dealer). Apparently, Lexus does not want people buying these w/o actually owning a BlackLine.

Now I understand the difference in early GX cargo space as around 90 cu ft as to 67'ish cu ft on later models. The photos make it very clear where the other 23 cu ft went.
Every time I See this nori green color it makes me want to sell our blue gx and go buy one... simply love that color. I need to stop looking at this thread.... haha
Now that many of have had your updated 2002 gx for awhile, I’m wondering how pleased you are with the updates they made for this model year. I’m especially interested in hearing from those who went from the previous infotainment and dash layout to the new one. Obviously the addition of apple CarPlay is a welcome addition as is the larger screen but other interior changes were made to accommodate this so I’m curious how happy you are with the new style. I watched a YouTube where the reviewer was critical of the new layout and updates, which surprised me but caused me to wonder if his view was shared by any of you.
It’s good that you asked for real owners because reviewers and critics are all trash. If the infotainment is anything like my 2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime then it’ll be a welcome update to an otherwise ancient system.
I traded in my 08 RX350 for my 22 GX. I have gone from the stone age to high tech. The RX did not have any safety features like traffic and passenger detection, mirror blind spot, backup camera, Lane departure, folding mirrors, auto dimming headlights, remote starting. This is my first rodeo with an infotainment screen and was ignorant of how the earlier screens were smaller and some functions were hard to use. In the RX I used my phone for navigation. Matter of fact if I wanted to talk to someone while driving I had to use my cell phone which I really did not like because I felt it was distracting to my driving. Now I can use the infotainment screen to make calls as well as the phone controls on the steering wheel. I love the navigation on the 10 inch plus screen. So easy and much safer to use than my cell phone sitting in a cup holder. I also like the ability to see weather radar on the screen. I find I use the touch screen more than the touch pad although both are easy to use. Bottom line ignorance is bliss as I have never owned a vehicle with so many bells and whistles and I really enjoy driving my RX with all of the features that the infotainment screen gives me.
I understand the infotainment refresh and I love mine. However, compared to my friend's '17, he doesn't have as much difficulty as I do installing a center windshield-mounted phone mount. For me, that competes with the infotainment screen. The way the screen sticks out above the rest of the dash is, of course, necessary for its size and it has to be above the vents unlike previous model years. If they had only updated the screen/display (IPS, LED, OLED, etc. would be better than the older LCD), the software to exclude the certain functions and added the physical buttons/***** instead, and the Android Auto/Apple CarPlay functionality, I would have still bought a '22 GX. This is to say that I am NOT one of the people that bought a '22 because of the center stack's appearance. The redesign to include the larger display, to me (just my opinion), offered no real advantage other than aesthetics, but has some drawbacks in terms of the real estate above the dash. Though, I'm not the type to mount anything and everything on my dash like some overlanders out there, it's certainly nice to have the option to do so. I think that would have been a happy middle ground that would have pleased just as many people. Owners of older model years would also have the choice to replace theirs with the new unit since only the internals differ. On the other hand, '22 owners like myself would get to add the MTS. I only use the track pad because of the new screen/functionality. Without it, I wouldn't need the track pad.
