Potential New GX Owner Questions
First time poster Very interested in picking up a 2022 model now that it has Apple Carplay.
1) In general, does the GX exhibit rattles in the interior or is it a well crafted / quiet interior? My last two cars have been brand new Subarus (2018 and 2022 models) and while I love most things about them, the interior is full of rattles and squeaks even on smooth roads which is very annoying (had the same experience with an Infiniti G35). I had a 2008 Lexus IS250 that was a dream and was so well crafted, never heard a squeak or rattle from the interior, hence why I am ready to come back to Lexus if the GX is also generally quiet and well built in the interior?
2) My wife and I are avid hikers/backpackers and are on rough forest roads most weekends (by rough I mean ruts and potholes, your average Subaru or car with decent ground clearance will make it just fine). Just soft-roading and no rock crawling. Is the the off-road package (and thus getting the luxury package) worth it or overkill? I have been looking at the Premium Plus trim level so I can stick with 18" wheels. But wondering if the luxury + off-road package would make a big difference in ride quality with the air suspension? Having the fuel protector + suspension does seem nice, but not crazy about having 19" wheels and having to swap them or buy new wheels. FWIW, I generally keep my cars 2 to 3 years and would likely trade it in again (probably for another GX) as new safety features get released.
Thank you for your time!

2) I would think total overkill. I am not sure how much the Lux even helps with off road, save for maybe letting you option of crawl control over down hill assist and the various cameras. But as you say, you are just driving rough forest roads any GX should be way more than enough for that. I personally think that the Prem Plus is the sweet spot. Its what I will get when I trade in my '13 in 7 or 8 more years from now

My 2013 with 111700 miles has no rattles with a lift and LT- E rated tires at 40psi. Some of my junk rattles, but the vehicle is tight.
The Offroad package may be overkill now, but if it’s in budget, crawl control and multi-terrain select cannot be added to the 2020 and newer models at a later date.

I don't know if this helps but i just ordered a 22 GX 460 Luxury with Off Road and Mark L. i also optioned it with the 18in F Sport wheels so I can size All Terrain tires on it unlike the19in wheels that the Luxury normally comes with. Just an idea if the wheel size is the issue for you.

Our 2007 GX feels more vault like and rattle free then my previous 2018 4-Runner. Lexus is another level, especially new. Kirk Kreifels (former Lexus salesman turned Influencer) has a channel on youtube, check it out....one of his videos he talks about how employees are selected to work on the Lexus line.

I agree with many of the previous comments with one exception.
The rear hatch can squeak/rattle after a while. You can find a few threads on I’m the problem and potential solutions in this forum.
Generally speaking I’ve found the 2 Toyota’s I own (2007 4Runner and 2015 GX460 are very quiet compared to previous makes/models I’ve owned.

It's a dead quiet cabin for its class. Not as responsive as some want but once going, it's very quiet and planted/stable (compared to RX) imo. You most likely will not have any issue if you plan to change in 2-3 years. I love the GX but it's just a bit too much for DD after awhile. But I wouldn't mind having another one now that it has updated exterior and some up to date inside. One of my friends likes going off road and he always wanted me to bring GX so he could compare because in his opinion, it's a great off road vehicle.

Had a 2016 and drove it to 97000 miles before it got totaled in a bad accident. This vehicle is just about the most rock solid you can buy. It will save your life as it did mine. And it's made in Japan where they care about quality.
I am thinking of getting back into one now that they finally updated it in the refresh. Since the V8 is still available, it is more desirable than the upcoming V6 turbo planned later as a replacement. I think we have maybe 2-3 years before that happens. Folks mention the 8 speed tranny as a want, but I reckon the current 6 speed is bulletproof. I routinely got 20-21 mpg on the highway.
