I bought the platinum Lexus on my 27K Mile 15 LX570 CPO and it was <$700, so I took it as it's 8 years 100K bumper to bumper. 5 years or 70K piece of mind was worth <700 as I'll spend more than that in gas the first year. Already worked on 2 day rain leak they had to track down cabin filter pushing on wire loom that funneled rain into cabin from windshield along with new battery $300.

$3300 is another game al together....WAY to high.

Food for thought on rear AHC and AVS repair costs.

I agree with rmason that if you have luxury model, get the warranty because air suspension are prone to wear out.

Other than that, GX460’s eng and trans are pretty much bullet proof. This car dosent come with much electronics when compare to other luxury models of today. Parts are also not as expensive, as some are just Toyota parts. Nor it required special programming from dealer to install.

Funny thing is, I recently bought a none CPO 2015 BMW M4 from the same Lexus dealer where I bought my GX. I purchased Lexus’s 5yr/60k platinum warranty for $4000. When I asked if it is worth on a BMW forum. Everyone said it is a steal consider how expensive the parts and repair can be on a M4. The engine alone would cost $30k to replace. $1500 for the battery, $3000 for the information head unit and etc. It all goes down how the repair cost going to affect you financially. It the maximum repair cost may put you in any kind trouble, buy the warranty to mitigate risk. If you can swallow the bill no problem, pass the extended warranty.

Extended warranties have all sorts of loopholes. Also know that many shops will not work with 3rd party service contracts because they refuse to pay "retail" and will have to approve every repair.

I would be surprised if they covered suspension parts like the air ride since struts are usually considered a "wear item" like brakes.

Just for clarification, when you say 4 year/60k miles, that is added to the current age and mileage? So 118,000 miles and 2022?

Also remember the factory has a drivetrain warranty that goes for 7 year/70k mile warranty that covers a lot of potential expensive repairs like the engine, transmission and many of the associated parts that go along with that.

Stumbled onto this thread and was looking for some pricing input. I am looking at a 2014 GX460 Luxury with 37,000 miles and is CPO. The dealer offered me the extended options as shown below. What does everyone think regarding these prices? I am really only considering it because I drive a ton of highway miles to and from work and mileage is what usually catches me first when talking about warranty expiration.

2 year $2,375
3 year $3,150
4 year $4,050
5 year $5,050

Save your money. You shouldn't have any major failures that would necessitate an extended warranty of any kind. The CPO coverage is enough and I'm sure you won't even use that. Just drive it and keep it well maintained and you'll be fine. Highway miles are a lot easier on a vehicle than stop&go city driving...

I appreciate your input, I do take very good care of my vehicles and perform most maintenance items myself etc.

Those are WAY too high....Make sure you are getting the Lexus CPO warranty and not a third party warranty. 5yr pricing for Lexus extended warranty when I bought my 2014 Luxury CPO w 18k in 2016 was $3,300 but I was offered it for $3,100. I bought it. Major feature for me is that the warranty is transferable to the next buyer so you end up with 2 years of CPO warranty and another 5yrs extended with UNLIMITED MILEAGE!......So some of the guys on the forum will say it is a bad deal and you don't need it but they also plan on driving their GX's into the ground and most do not have the Luxury package. With the Lux package you have to worry about the air suspension and leaning issue (2014)..... I felt the value was worth it because if I run the truck up to 100k in two years I can still sell it with warranty until 2025! That easily has monetary value for the next owner. Plus you also have the ability to just cancel the policy before it starts and get your money back but you cannot add the Lexus policy on CPO after purchase (must be done at time of purchase - I didn't believe it when the salesman told me so I excused myself and confirmed via phone with two other out of state dealers). So I would say buy it; see how the first two years go and then either get your money back or drive the hell out of it with no worries for another 5 years. Just my two cents.

I went with a used 2012 with low miles. I checked out the maintenance history on drive Lexus website and it checked out to my satisfaction. One of the biggest reasons I went with this vehicle/brand was because it’s reliable. My personal opinion is to make sure the major maintenance items have been done in the past. Save your money and maintain it. It should last with basic wear items being replaced to 300,000-400,000 miles.

Default Extended Warranty for 2011 with 90k

Hi All,
I just bought a 2011 GX with 90k. I have owned two RX’s 01 and 05. So I know IF things go wrong it can get pricey. So I got two quotes for 6 addition years or 100k additional miles. So I would b covered for 190 K they are asking $3200. It is close to a bumper to bumper warranty. Thoughts?

Do you know the service history of the car? I have a 2011 with 122k miles and no problems (outside of warranty extension) since bought with 40k miles. $3200....Save your money.

I think the only major out of pocket repair someone had was for an AT at a Lexus dealership $3K which frankly I was surprised it was that low.

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gx-...t-2014-gx.html

These are ..rarely....rarely reported as failed. At that point I'd just keep the money in a potential repair fund.

history is good. 1 owner and had it serviced every 5 and 15 K at the same Lexus dealer from date of purchase.

Base or Premium? If Premium see if warranty really does cover suspension related items. Any idea who the warranty company is?

It’s the base model. No adjustable suspension. I have quotes from two companies. Carchex and Endurance. Carchex is “Gold” level coverage and Endurance is “Superior” coverage. Both include all Towing, rental, roadside assistance and trip interruption. There are ALOT of language in both contracts but they both cover all major components in electrical.
