Hey PWM, the warranty I think you're talking about is the same one that coolsaber also mentioned, which is the same that I was asking about as well. A couple of the names that coolsaber is referring to are:

Troy Dietrich of Toyota of Greenfield, MA
Toby at Lexus of Shreveport
Jerry Johnson of the Midwest Superstore Toyota in Hutchinson Kansas

They're from this thread. I've only contacted Jerry so far, and the price he gave to me is listed in the first post. Since I've decided against the Carmax warranty, I still need to contact the others on the list to see what their prices are. I took my first road trip a couple weekends ago, so I now have almost 41k miles on it now. So I better get on the stick (as Rob Dobbs would say)!

If you end up getting an extended warranty, let me know. I'd be interested to hear what you found.

I bought it from Carmax at a surprisingly competitive price compared to what's around here. Given that it is still within factory warranty, I have the option to purchase the Lexus Platinum 0 deductible 7 year/100k mile extended warranty at $2445, with thanks to Mr. Jerry Johnson at Midwest Superstore in Kansas. I also have the option to buy the Maxcare extended warranty from Carmax for 5 years/100k miles at $1859. This is for a 0 deductible if brought to Carmax (or Carmax-approved shop, I believe) but a $50 deductible if brought anywhere else. I'm leaning towards getting the Maxcare warranty because of the price difference and taking it to the Lexus dealership if anything does in fact go wrong. The way I see it, I would have almost 12 trips to Lexus for warrantied repairs before even matching the price of the Lexus warranty. And, to be clear, the 5 year time period for the Maxcare warranty is from the purchase date of the warranty, not the date of the original title. Both are able to be be prorated if canceled, but I'm not able to transfer the Maxcare warranty to the next private owner if I were to sell my vehicle that way, unlike the Lexus warranty.

I'm just curious to know if there's an angle I might be missing in my thought process (other than don't buy an extended warranty and put the money aside for repairs... I didn't miss that one, I would just prefer the added security). It seems that the Maxcare warranty is pretty comprehensive in what it covers and there don't seem to be many instances that I've read about online where they didn't cover a repair that truly should be covered by this type of warranty. Unless I'm reading in the wrong places, so please direct me to the right area if that's the case.

Anyway, thank you for the time in reading this and for any information you may have to share. I love my new ride, and I'm looking forward to many many years of comfort and enjoyment from it.
I’ve heard good things about the Carmax warranty. There is a famous auto journalist that had one on his unreliable Range Rover. He ended up taking his car to the dealer all the time meanwhile only spending $50 for the deductible every time.

Doug Demuro on Jalopnik. His experience is truly good. However as I have come to understand with warranties and anything else YMMV.

Good warranties have good terms you have read and 50% of the battle, the remaining portion is how the individual working on your car interprets those terms. Make sure your local dealer is competent and actually accepts the Carmax warranty.

Tow Hitch with Ball Mount, Headlamp Washers,

Premium Package: Leather trimmed seats, Mahogany wood trim, rain-sensing wipers, windshield deicer, LED foglamps, 18" Split-six spoke alloy wheels, Intuitive Parking Assist, Heated/Ventilated Front Seats, Heated outboard 2nd row seats, 3-zone automatic climate control, Navigation Package,

Mahogany Wood & Leather trimmed steering wheel and shift ****, Cargo Mat, Cargo Net, Wheel Locks, & a Key Glove. So it's kinda loaded
I paid $38K which I thought was a little high? But...That included 3 years of B2B Factory Warranty and 2 years Maintenance. I actually believe the 160 point inspection is a bunch of BS but the piece of mind having the Warranty...goes a long way, and the maintenance doesn't hurt. (Plus I added MTS, Crawl, and a front camera for around $900)
That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!
thats actually a great price for 2016! 👍

Mr. Jerry Johnson, who many people on here have mentioned before, is the one that gave me the quote and makes clear in his email that the warranties that he sells are Lexus Certified and not 3rd party or aftermarket. As for rust, I did have a slight concern about that as well, so this morning before work I took the GX to a trusted local mechanic to do a used car "pre-purchase" inspection (in quotes because I obviously already purchased it, but I have until Friday to return it for a full refund). I mentioned it being from New York originally so he said he would be sure to check for any rust issues. When he was done, he said that they did find one thing wrong with it... it's low on washer fluid. He said that it's extremely clean and solid and he would have purchased it himself had he found it first. So I was happy with that report.

While still working out my decision, I called my local Lexus dealer to ask how they've fared with their dealings with Maxcare warranties. He said that they refuse to take them, after attempting to work with them a few years ago and having so many issues. He said that the only way they work with Carmax warranties now is if the warranty owner takes the car to Carmax directly, and if they can't fix it, they'll send it to Lexus to fix. He says that this relationship with Carmax has been great for them. But my taking the car directly to Lexus and paying the $50 copay? No dice. No matter what Carmax says. So that means, Lexus warranty it is!
Congrats with the purchase! Looks like you found a GX in outstanding condition! enjoy it and share pictures!

I have a 2011 RX350. Purchased certified pre-owned from dealer with 25k miles. Now up to 92k miles. Told me today need a new radiator and that the Engine Oil Cooler Pipes have seepage.

My certified Lexus Mechanic (not dealer, but is authorized for warranty work) has been telling us for a while to replace the hoses. Today he said there was some seepage from the Engine Oil Cooler Pipe. They want to charge almost $1k to replace. I called Lexus and was told my VIN was covered and that the new Primary Coverage was extended to Jan 31,2021. The warranty work has to be done at a Lexus Dealer. We canceled the Lexus Mechanic and I will take to the dealer with hopes it's fully covered. The dealer has notated my service order as such and I have pictures from my mechanic. I just hope they replace all the hoses and not just the leaky one. But I guess it's worth it to make the 2nd trip for the warranty coverage

The radiator itself is $280 for OEM, hoses are in the $20-$40 range. If the radiator is suspect to cracks you need to replace it before fluids start mixing and ruins your engine or transmission. Not too bad of a DIY but if it is covered let them take care of it.

Thanks. The radiator was replaced on Thursday. On Monday it's going to dealer for the hose replacement. Hopefully that will be ok.

The only warranty you really need on a Lexus is proper maintenance. Unless you have experienced some troublesome history with yours, I`d just keep a rainy day fund.

On a Range Rover you would definitely need a warranty. on a Lexus as long as you maintain it....Not so much. But if you mustBefore purchasing any extended warranty, it’s essential you ask:
  • What’s covered? What’s not covered?
  • Who backs the warranty?
  • How much is the deductible?
  • Do I have to pay upfront for repairs? If so, how long will I have to wait for reimbursement?
You should also find out whether the extended warranty’s coverage (either time period or problems) overlaps with that of your manufacturer’s warranty — because you definitely want to avoid paying for two plans that do the same thing.
