Every Lexus I have ever owned had repairs the paid for the Extended warranty. At least 2 or 3 times over. My 2012 ISF had a 9.000-dollar repair bill to fix my Air Conditioning. This was around 55K miles.

I’m certainly not arguing with you, but throwing nearly 2k down on a refined platform that is super reliable and been around for 13 years is not my style. To each their own. If it helps him sleep better then go for it. Like I said I would shop around as you did.

i skipped it for my '12. at the time the price was more than the average repair (not drivetrain). Since i do my own work i figured the parts cost would be less. Only has one thing broken on it, the throttle body, i think about $200 and 30 mins swap.
read the details of any extended warranty, some are good and others dont cover much. it helps to have a friend or two at repair shops that are willing to word things the correct way to ensure coverage.

GX is literally the most reliable vehicle on the road, skip it.

Default 2018 GX460 Extended Warranty

Hi all,

I'm buying a used 2018 GX460 75K miles from dealer.
The car has not been replaced or done any major problems (water pump, fuel injection, etc...) yet.

Should I buy the extended warranty for "PowerTrain Coverage Plan" 4yrs 48K miles?
Deductible is $500

please list your PowerTrain major repairs cost over $500 before GX reaching 120K miles

Your opinions appreciated.

Thank you

If it is from a dealer - is the GX a CPO? If so you have 2 years unlim Lexus factory with no deductible for 2 years. In that time period you have the option to extend from 1 to 5 extra years.

No, as I said above, GX is literally the most reliable vehicle on the road. Look it up.

It's a tried and true, indestructible V8, you're not going to have any powertrain issues. Don't waste your money on warranties.

As others have stated, most likely not necessary for power train. However, if it covers seals and gaskets, I would get it IMO.

Bought my 2014 with 82k 2 yrs ago and got extended warranty that covers seals and gaskets. Didn’t learn about two major gasket repairs, timing chain cover gasket and coolant valley plate leak until after purchase and joining this forum. I had the dreaded timing chain cover gasket leak fixed a month ago and cost me my deductible of $100. It would have cost me $3200 if no warranty. Basically, got my money back that I paid for warranty. Again, just my opinion/experience.

Got my warranty through YAA (your auto advocate) but is now called Caredge.

I would also recommend a pre-purchase inspection. Did mine through Lemon Squad…

Default 2022 GX Luxury- extended warranty?

Hi Everyone !

New to the group. I am looking to buy an extended warranty for my 2022 GX Luxury- owned since new and have about 15K miles on it now. Has anyone got an extended warranty after purchase and if so which lexus dealer in the US has the best deal? Also, has any used the warranty yet on the 2nd gen GX and if so what are some common issues ? I love this SUV and want to keep it for 20+ years in my collection. Thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thank you, M

We got a 21', have not considered getting any extended warranty, been rock solid since day 1.
Only done maintenance and replaced tires as they were worn down
We will keep it as long as it makes sense, it's a great old school BOF SUV.

I did when we bought our 17 Luxury with 55k miles one year ago. I think it was $4k through a well established local dealership, 7years 70k miles bumper to bumper, no deductible if we took it to their shop for evaluation first. It is also partially refundable if we decide we don't want it any longer. Imho it was almost as if we were buying new, but not taking the hit on depreciation.

I've had four GX 460's, and currently own three. Have never bought an extended warranty. The oldest one is a '16 with about 108,000 on the clock. If I switched off the odometer and you drove it, you would think it's like new. No vehicles are perfect, but these things are as close to bulletproof as you will ever find. You can purchase a lot of repairs for the cost of a long term extended factory warranty. ($4k?) If your plan is to keep it for 20 years, the likelihood of major repairs would be well beyond the limits of ANY extended warranty. Drive it, enjoy it, change the oil religiously, (sooner than the 10k recommended) rotate the tires, and do the prescribed maintenance, and you will be a happy GX owner for many years!

The better deal on extended warranty is generally for used/CPO's with the VSA + Extended unlimited mileage Warranty. I bought a 2013 T4R brand-new and got the extended warranty, but never used it. When I picked up the current '17 GX in mid 2019 with approx 40K miles, it was a CPO with VSA, and added the Extended Unlimited Mileage Warranty to get me covered through November 2024 ($2K for the warranty; resulted in 8 years bumper-to-bumper coverage from MFG/Service date). Didn't need it once until last month at 140K (and 7.5 years into the warranty!) - and it has paid for itself 4x now. I was actually expecting to use it more for things like A/C or power windows/seats, auto wipers, and crap like that - but ended up needing a Transmission replacement, Radiator, and valley plate re-seal around 140K Miles - all covered under warranty!

If you will be piling on the miles, and will blow-through the factory warranty WRT mileage - then the extended warranty also makes sense IMO. But no warranty will get you covered for the 20-year ownership you are expecting - and sounds like you will be a fairly low-mileage use-case (I'd literally have 1,000,000 miles in 20 years!). I doubt you will have any issues an extended warranty would cover within the warranty period.
