The common consensus seems to wait just before your factory warranty expires and then decide if you need the extended warranty. Leave the money in the bank earning interest for now.

I wouldn't get a warranty on one of these, especially not before the factory or powertrain is up. We made the mistake of buying an extended warranty on our previous 4runner V8 (basically the same car) and never used it..waste of $1500.

Thanks
Bobby.
Don't purchase one from the dealer, you can purchase the same warranty for a lot less from one of
these people. Check both of their prices.

The only problem is....if you wait too long those prices may or may not go up even though technically it isn't a 3rd party warranty where it starts when you purchase the warranty. The genuine Lexus starts whenever you purchase the car even if you buy it 3 years later. Like I said, only issue is if they raise the price 3 years later. Other than that, you can wait. I would drive the car for at least 6 months to see if it is a long-termer for you and decide that later.

Default Warranty Expiring in May...

To be honest, in the four years since we've had the second generation GX, we haven't had any reason to bring in the car to the dealership. I believe this is a testament to the quality of the car.

That being said, the warranty is expiring soon and I want to bring the GX in and see if there's anything that will need to be fixed. Now, when I think of car dealerships, my mind tends to go to the worst place. I assume they won't find anything and then a month after the warranty, something will go wrong. Am I being too harsh? Is there a good approach when it comes to getting the car checked before the warranty expires?

Thank you for the help.

(Also, does the satellite navigation maps need to be upgraded each year?)

I just don't know how they will find anything to repair if you don't feel anything is broken. That's really the only diagnostic for a lot of repairs, the computer throwing codes or strange sounds etc. so basically you will bring in your car, they will put it on a hoist and go "yep looks good". It's not even a greedy dealership thing, it's just that nothing is wrong.

I'm in the same boat with my GX460. My 4 years will be up in May. The truck has 43,000 on it.

I took in to the dealer to check the brakes and replace if necessary. They replaced the pads and turned the rotors on the rear.

Also, under warrantee they replaced the battery.

There's a rumor going around that we will have to purchase the extended warranty in the State the car was purchased.

Did you think about purchasing the extended warranty before the main one expires? I will be in the same boat in about two years...

Yes I did, I purchased the extended warrantee, from TROY DIETRICH who is in Massachusetts. You can find Troy by Googleing his name. It cost me $2000 for 7 yr/100,000 miles.

Thanks! Did you have any other options other than 7yr/100,000 miles?
