"..... there is often warranty issues related to the installation of aftermarket products and/or services on a vehicle that is still under a new car warranty. Often people install custom, non-factory aftermarket products or use certain services for vehicle maintenance. The Magnuson Moss Warranty Act addresses such issues, stating that if a customer installs an aftermarket product (it could be a fluid, filter, hard part, software...virtually anything that was not installed on or in the vehicle from the factory when it was new), and if the vehicle fails as a result of the installation or use of the aftermarket product/service, the carmaker cannot arbitrarily deny a warranty claim and/or void the new car warranty because of the installation or use of the aftermarket product. In fact, the automaker must prove beyond a doubt that the failure was indeed caused by the installation or use of the aftermarket product. More recently, the Federal Trade Commission provided an advisory on this same consumer issue and regulatory theme.

The reason this law was instituted? Carmakers were arbitrarily voiding car warranties and refusing warranty service because the customer had installed an aftermarket product or service. Since there was no required burden of proof on the carmaker, consumers were hung out to dry. The Magnuson Moss Warranty Act forced carmakers to prove that the failure was due to the aftermarket product."

@Acrad25751, can you post a link to the OEM filter with the plastic valve? I couldn't find one for the YZZA3 but saw it has the plastic for YZZA5 filters.

The small o-ring for the end cap will come with oil filter kit.

Same filter but it includes the drain plug as well as the small o-ring mentioned above.

YZZA5 is the kit you want. One could just get one YZZA5 and then use YZZA3 as long as you didn't remove the end cap when changing oil.

Does anybody know if this metal oil filter housing is the direct match for the 2015 Lexus GX 460. For some reasons, I lost the original middle center stick of my plastic oil filter housing and unsure if it’s the same size as this metal oil filter housing. Can somebody help me out and verify this? Thanks

the end cap isn’t used on the stock plastic caps used on GX oil filter cap

you need it once you convert to metal cap

Maybe you misunderstood me but I was asking if I need to swap out the perforated center piece between the original plastic housing and the metal. Are they the same size?

I just received my metal housing over the weekend but haven’t swapped it yet. I played aroundby removing the perforared center to check it out. There are two thin tabs on the perforated center that you just use the flathead screwdriver to flip them up so you can turn them pass the locking knots and remove it. Once you out the new one in, just press the tabs back down to flatten it a bit so it would hit the knots to prevent it from rotation.

I lost the original perforated piece. Not sure if If the one included with the metal is “good enough”.

Could it be that the perforated piece is there to hold the filter in place and also helps to prevent to much pressure to hit against inside of the filter? Without it, the filter may disintegrated with too much pressure?

Dorman sells the kit with both the short and long pieces.

I agree with bbqsoup.. that internal support is most likely needed. I've never heard of anyone on the Tundra forums say they didn't swap that part. I wouldn't be comfortable at least with current knowledge of swap using the shorter one that comes with the new cap.

The only way an aftermarket part is going to cause a warranty issue is 'if it is the cause of the failure that one is trying make a warranty claim on.' This is per both Lexus and Toyota.

I am picking up a 2018 GX-460 on Saturday. I seem to remember a Lexus dealer down south that sell the extended warranty and other packages for almost cost. Can you give me that information?
