The Lexus issue does seem plausible. Why are there no class-IV aftermarket hitches being made for the GX460?

I doubt there’s enough of a demand for the aftermarket to produce them. The number of GX’s sold per year is a fraction of the 4Runner sales.

Yeah, but the one (1) place that would make them, would have all the business for GX460. Since it would be kinda boutique-ish, the maker could even jack the price up a smidge. One place that sells a class-IV for $350, who's not buying it of they need a class-IV?

Is there that much demand for the class-III GX460 hitch like the Curt one, or perhaps that one item fits multiple vehicles?

Anyways, seems like just another year of no class-IV for GX460.................... unless you have one custom made.

@Acrad , have you heard anything else on this? Am hoping that Lexus does soon (eventually) provide an OEM solution...

Lexus said "mid August", but they didn't specify which year.

If there's no hard date for availability, then it's vaporware.

I really can't believe just how badly Lexus has dropped the ball on this. It's ridiculous and there's no excuse for it

It's not confidence inspiring that they can make thousands of vehicles per day yet can't even make and sell a hitch which has been basically unchanged for 12 years in almost a year.

Factor in the class-IV hitch demand/market for GX vehicle, so perhaps that's why no real push to have such part available. It has to fit into Toyota's biz/roi model, which means having to order X # of units into inventory in order to get investment costs down, and then hoping people buy them.

Then there was mention of a GX design flaw, so maybe towing in the class-IV category is just no good for the GX? I know for certain, there's a reason why the "lexus" class-IV is not available.

Like I mentioned earlier, for the few that really need a class-IV, have one made. DOM tubing, standard design, qualified MIG welding, grade-8 bolts, voila, you have a receiver.

Someone should poke at Lexus folks a bit, tell them you have a qualified fab'er shop who will make you a class-IV, then ask Lexus if there's any issue towing in that category, see what they say.

Are you offering to do this? None of us waiting for the OEM hitch are interested in going to a fab shop for a custom hitch. This thread is solely for those of us wanting an OEM Class IV hitch to use the advertised towing weight of our GX as Lexus promised. Like I mentioned previously, some folks ordered 2022s with a Class IV hitch that was supposed to be port installed and they came without any hitch, I highly doubt any of those folks are interested in going to Bill's Metalworking down the road to have them build a hitch for a brand new vehicle. All I'm interested in is Lexus' OEM Class IV hitch on our brand new vehicle.

I sent Lexus a question on the class IV hitch via twitter. No response for a few days - but they did respond back today with:

“Our apologies on the delay in response. We're glad to hear you're loving your '22 GX! The tow hitch accessory currently has an ETA of mid to late September. Please know, this is subject to change.”

I asked them if they could provide a part number. If I hear back, I’ll share that too.

—had a response back from Lexus: talk with your dealership / we don’t have that information.

You mean Toyota Prado J150 design flaw? Where did you read this?

The GX hitch for the US/NA market is highly likely designed specifically for the US/NA market and very likely built in the US (ones sold in the AU/UK/EU are different styles that meet different rules and would fit different for different style bumper covers/dual fuel tanks & spare on the door etc.). Since stock had been pulled from US dealers, the issue could have been a discovered manufacturing flaw (bad welds) or improper material (cheap imported steel not up to specs). However, there have been no recalls for those who have early 22' with port installed hitches, so who knows for sure the real reason. Because of the stop sale then return inventory to Toyota, this would not be a supply chain nor production issue. Dealers had them in stock but were instructed to return them.

If one needs a >5Klbs tow rating and must tow now and only have the GX to tow with, then buy a used hitch (and accompanied weight distribution/trailer brake controller).

Bell Lexus North Scottsdale confirmed that the new PN (as previously posted by others) will be PT22860141

They were told August but still no ETA and to check back in a couple weeks.
