Just spoke to my local Lexus dealer about the tow hitch receiver for the GX.
I was told that they have several hundred of them at the warehouse in KY but they won't be released until the end of the month.
The new part number is PT228-60141 and the MSRP is $571.
Ridiculous price, if you ask me.

I’m not doubting what they said, but I wonder why they won’t they release them until the end of the month? That seems stupid. They are in stock but we are holding them…..This situation is ridiculous. You have them at a DC, several hundred of them, and we will just keep customers ticked off and let them sit. So lame.

I think their database is just out of date, I know it fits a 2022 and I don't think they changed anything for a 23, but can't confirm 100%.

Also, don't forget to buy the bolts, I think that is a bare hitch and doesn't come with them. I also used two spacer plates, and I don't know if it comes with them either - I've seen mixed things about this in the past, if you need them, people making their own (yikes!), etc. My 2016 had them which is where I stole the hitch from for the 2022 so I carried them over without much thought, but I think it needs them - certainly looks level and proper.

You do have to pop out that one trim part in the bumper, but you probably know that.

My GX is in for the 12 month service and all they’d say is that the old part # is discontinued.

Maybe we’ll get a new hitch eventually and maybe we won’t. I guess time will tell.

‘The hitch DOES come with everything you need. Spacer plates/bolts etc. The database isn’t out of date, the hitch doesn’t align up properly on some of the inventory they have. I’ve seen it. That’s alL it is…there’s no conspiracy theory LOL. New hitches should be available very soon.

My Lexus service manager called me back today, said the same thing, no update on release. Traveling with the family and wanted to add a cargo carrier that folds up and down just to carry misc items. Going to take the tundra instead.

If Lexus does not sell a hitch for the 2023 GX 460, do they have a list of approved hitches. Seems weird that their 2022/23 GX brochure claims 6500 lb towing capability, shows a picture towing an Airstream Travel Trailer, and a picture towing a boat. So is Lexus advertising something they don't sell and have been doing so for over a year?

Basically, yeah. There hasn't been an OEM hitch available since the end of August 2021.

They don't officially approve of any aftermarket hitch either.

I'm honestly not sure how they haven't been sued for false advertising yet. It's probably because they have deeper pockets than the average GX owner and there aren't enough of us to make it worthwhile for a class action.

Agreed. Lexus may just write the 2022/23 GX hitch off, since indications are the redesign will become available in 2024 and they can sell everyone they make quickly. The number of GX sales in the US are not significant other than for customer satisfaction. Then again, the US GX customer base is small as well. So Lexus may just let GX owners hang and give them the carrot to buy the redesign for towing.

Just hearing from a couple dealers stock levels of this hitch are going up but they still can't order them.

I picked up my 2023 GX 460 a couple weeks ago. It did not come with the tow hitch receiver, and was told the same the others have said here. Well, earlier this week my local Lexus dealer in California was able to order the updated part, and today I got it installed at the dealership!

It looks like this new updated tow hitch receiver for the GX 460 is available now.

It look like teh one I have on a 21, but I'm still curious enough to see what they have changed, if anything?

I'm not sure what was changed. But something I noticed is that they did not have to remove any part of my bumper cover to install this.

@jlficken the part number I was given is PT228-60141.

I ordered it from Lexus of Fremont here in Northern California. This is the name and contact of the person who helped me

Garry
Lexus of Fremont
510-657-6600 Ext. 4214

Since getting my car, I've been unable to move/tow my boat, without the hitch receiver so I've been calling all the dealerships around me on a weekly basis. This was the only dealer that actually took the time to call Lexus to get the details on this part, all other dealers literally told me "Not available, not sure when it will be available" and proceeded to hang up on me.
