I will do that. I’ve done it on Hondas and it was not difficult. Saving $1200 makes the decision easy

Smart move. $1725 is absolutely ridiculous. My dealer quoted $800 to add it.

This represents a $1,000-odd labor cost ... so $1,000 / $150 per-hour = 6.7 hours labor ... on a job that is easily completed inside an inflated 1.5 hours. Use math to push back on this absolute BS ... and maybe you need to assess where else are you being totally ripped off ? Math is the great equalizer when it comes to negotiations.

Bought my Lexus full-on hitch from Bell Lexus in 2019 ... $300-odd with free shipping. Took about 1-hour to install ... no shop lift required ... easy access given the ground clearance.

I recently installed the OEM hitch on my 2022 GX. Finally!!! Anyway, I had previously bought the Curt hitch to use temporarily. It’s now for sale if anyone needs one!

here are the specs…

CURT 13043 Class 3 Trailer Hitch, 2-Inch Receiver, Fits Select Lexus GX460, GLOSS BLACK POWDER COAT

500lb tongue weight capacity
5000lb towing capacity

pm me offers.

Thank you!

That is not the full-on Class IV Hitch that also attaches to the side frame rails ... so does not apply to this conversation. This Class III Hitch is great for a bicycle carrier or a light trailer but not much more.

IMHO these "Receivers" should not be available given people see a "Hitch" installed and assume it supports the advertised towing capacity of the vehicle ... that is based on an installed Class IV Hitch.

500lb tongue weight and 5,000lbs is one hell of a bike rack! I do agree that the Curt would be misleading as it isn't rated for the full towing capacity. What is very interesting is that no manufacturers make a full Class IV hitch for the GX460. One of very few vehicles that doesn't have aftermarket support for their full rating. Also has me curious as to why there was such a long stop sale on the OEM GX460 hitch. Fyi CURT makes OEM hitches for a very large variety of manufacturers. .

Agree ... my point is that the "Receiver" should have "Class III" or "Class IV" clearly stamped on the Receiver in plain sight so people know the capacity ... otherwise they assume it supports the maximum vehicle towing capacity ... a very dangerous assumption if towing an Airstream or other heavy payload.

I was not trying to mislead anyone. This hitch was brought up numerous times in this thread as an alternative until the oem hitch was released.

All good ... just saying all "Hitches" are not created equal.

Yeah I would be very curious to hear what the CURT engineers/designers have to say about that issue. I mean if I bought the vehicle second hand and it had that hitch on it, I wouldn't think twice to tow whatever the owners manual said it was capable of towing.

To your point above ... and to my original point ... IMHO any hitch installed should match the maximum towing capacity of the vehicle. So for me ... these Class III "Receivers" are potentially dangerous for those that don't know the difference.

The new part number is actually PT22860141 just an FYI so you may have gotten an old hitch.

Actually, the part I installed was PT22860141. The instructions still worked. Updating my previous thread so it reflects the same.

Thank you @jlficken

BTW, the one ending in 0141 also says it will not fit 2023 GX 460.

It’s probably fine as the 60140 hitches were installed on many 2022 GX’s. Lexus issued a Stop Sale on the 60140 part # back in 10/2021 but would never state why. All dealerships were supposed to have returned the 60140 hitches back to Lexus and not sold them.

I had to wait 18 months to get the 60141 hitch when it was finally released.

The 60140 part was discontinued before the 2023 GX was even released.
