Yeah, I read up on it. The computer guys have it now in Florida so I’m curious to see how it tests out. I honestly think for under $150 it’s a great way to confirm for sure what I’m dealing with. I know usually during testing and process of elimination you probably wouldn’t start with the ECU. I know definitively if the ECU tests fine it’s something deeper into the wiring, they fix it and I’m good to go or it’s deemed unrepairable and then I’m looking the refurbished route or new.
This gets worse every day, Received a call from the ECU repair company and they said my ECU is non repairable due to water damage and they don’t even have a refurbished one available. All this time I’m thinking water came up from undercarriage wash when where the ECU sits it is certain to have come down in through a gap or leak in my windshield. I had the windshield replaced through my GEICO insurance at Safelight glass so not sure what was missed. My options are limited, I started an insurance claim to see if I’m covered for water damage and if so I’ll tow it to Lexus, if for some reason it isn’t covered I’m in the market for a refurbished, used or new ECU. I’ve looked all over including the sites Acrad posted and it seems next to impossible to find one. I have seen (3) part numbers that would work. My ECU is 89661-60Q20, which has since been replaced with 89661-60Q21 and it seems part number 89661-60L80 for 2010’s was also replaced by 60Q21 so I would think all 3 would work. I can buy a new one on many Lexus online sites for $1030 plus delivery/tax and from my hours of researching it’s plug n play with the exception of a key learn that supposedly can be done by jumping pins 4 and 13 for 30 mins. with your current smart keys in the truck. Can anyone confirm this as well as the 3 part numbers I listed above as fitting. Thanks everyone.

Tow truck driver literally called me and said your truck is dead how am I going to tow it? I said the same way you tow illegal parked cars, can’t make this up. My appraisal is for new ECU labor, and programming, with the pre approval for supplemental to fix the origin of water leak. The position the ECU sits at behind the glove box near windshield cowl and trim pieces makes me think that’s the origin.

Thanks for the update. I think it's a good call to do this via insurance. Hoping your luck turns around and you get the GX back on the road in no time. As I suggested previously, the A/C drain would still be suspect, IMO.

My truck is currently at the dealership and an electrical specialist starts on it tomorrow supposedly. I’ll update with fingers crossed.
Called dealership today and they are still waiting on new ECU. I asked if they were able to isolate where the water came in and the advisor said the tech isn’t certain water came in. Truck died in a car wash while stuck under the rinse cycle because lady in front of me hit her brakes and ECU was sent out for repair and sent back unrepairable from water damage which by policy gave me a full refund so not a scam to sell refurbished. The ECU going bad at that moment isn’t a coincidence. Probably use the famous “couldn’t reproduce symptom”. It sounds just lazy to me.
Update. Got my truck back from dealership and $2900 later is running great after replacing the ECU, and finding some open circuit with the harness to the EFI and a bad ground. After performing water intrusion test it couldn’t be determined where the water got in and what caused the ECU to fail. They have reassured that they are satisfied everything is sealed and shouldn’t have a problem in the future. I know my first few car washes will be scary. I’ll try to upload the invoice description of repairs. Thanks to everyone that has contributed to this thread.
Wonder if it somehow exposed some degraded insulation on wiring from water jets being concentrated on them for a period of time and then shorted wires together that took out the ECU in cabin?

As long as it never happens again, we may never know but Acrad you might be right. Truck is running great though.

I have the same problem with my car Lexus Gx460 2011, after an automatic wash after 5 minutes my car never started again. I found a bad fuse from EFI, and the car does not communicate with the ECU. I read the errors and it had P060A, P0052 and 2 more codes from the ignition coil. I changed the ignition coil with spark plugs, I also changed the bad fuse. Nothing has changed. I ordered a used ECU at an affordable price that I paid extra to be sure it works ECU 89221-60Q21.
The car only started to start for a second and then dies.
Is it possible to have an electrical short?
He had a bad ECU, an open circuit, and a bad ground. At least that's what Lexus told him. You could start by inspecting grounds. Then maybe testing continuity on circuits, like EFI, etc.
