For those that want the floaty ride the KDSS bypasses essentially accomplish that. There are a couple out on the market now for 460 and 4R by Dr KDSS or Blackgatecustoms.

There also appears to be single ground wire near the left tail light that can be toggled on/off to obtain same behavior

I def would want to keep the KDSS operable. I’ve decided to buy new stock rear shocks and use a strut coil combo for the front from suncore $254 plus shipping for the pair when they are back in stock.

These only temporarily disable KDSS for higher speed off-road above the 12 mph limit and perhaps rough city streets 40 and below.

With all due respect ... $254 for a pair of strut assemblies ? Quality springs alone are in that same price range ... so these are clearly bargain basement. I would not install these on my lawn mower let alone a Lexus. $127 per assembly ? ... no question, those shocks are garbage.

I’m sure they aren’t on par with OEM but I have a buddy that has used suncore on a GX470 conversion and swears they are quality parts. Maybe just wait for an online sale and buy OEM, just considering some options.

All good ... my take ... given suspension and tires determine vehicle dynamics from a handling and performance standpoint, let alone the safety aspect (emergency maneuver) ... this is not the place to cut corners.

You should check out your friends setup or maybe test drive his truck/suv before purchasing and installing the suncore stuff. I wouldn't put those on my GX. You probably dont need new coils anyway and a set of Bilstein 4600s are abt $350 so not saving much.

... and even with a test ride, you will be lucky if they last 15,000 miles ... and will be substandard up to that point of replacement.

Thanks, You all make valid points. That’s why this is the best forum for Lexus info.

I am leaning towards bilstein now but wondering if i should go with 4600 or 5100? Bilstein doesn't have a part# for lexus GX but they do for 4runners but the 4runner is abt 400lbs lighter then the GX so not sure if 4600s would be too soft ?

Anyone installed either of these on thier 2nd gen GX ?

5100's on the GX470 required the first lowest lift setting... otherwise the stock springs were not adequately compressed as an assembly ... so resulted in a 1.25" front lift. Not sure on the GX460 since I lifted anyway using the stock springs.

I used to have a 2012 Tacoma with Bilstein 4600 as OEM, I upgraded it to Bilstein 5100. There is a big diff. between the 2. The 5100 is LARGER in diameter. There is another version for Bilstein, 6112. This one is also larger than the 5100 and maybe better for the heavy GX.

yes i know abt the 6112s but they cost 3.5x the price of 2 4600s or 5100s and not sure if i am willing to spend that much.

Between the 4600s and 5100s when you say there is a big difference which one provided a better smoother ride for daily driver?

I am thinking the 4600s will be a lil stiff/firm compared to oem lexus and i may not like 5100 if they are stiffer.

I use my GX mostly pavement

NO ... the 4600's and 5100's are the EXACT SAME diameter ... with the 5100's simply having a longer shock body for lift applications, with multiple lower spring perch settings for adjustable levels of lift. The 5100's at the "no-lift" height setting are identical to the 4600's in terms of damping ... and even at the first lift setting ... based on direct experience ... have installed both on Toyota V8 4-Runner / GX470 and GX460. With lift settings above that, it has been reported that the damping does becomes more pronounced ... and even harsh at the maximum (2.5 to 3.0 inch) lift level.

The 6112's do have a larger shock body ... so are more of an off-road shock given the larger damping volume.
