Large pieces of my Starlite Pearl paint is falling off the front of my 2011 GX460 hood in several places.
I see NO evidence of any hits, dings, etc, by anything. No sandblasting seen.
The paint is just loose and comes off in pieces if I pull on a piece.
I could easily pull a hand size piece off with very little effort. It basically falls off.
What is going on !
What to do ?

How long have you had 460? I wonder if it was exposed to some type of chemical? Paint peeling issues on stock 460s.... I can't readily remember any. I'm aware of the program Lexus has for the 470s that are white.

Yep, sounds exactly like it has been repainted, at some point.

When you pulled a piece off, that's the color underneath? Is is grayish and shiny a bit? On the GX470 with paint peeling, the primer is a bit shiny causing the them not to bond properly.
Btw, my '14 Camry is White Pearl and got a letter from Toyota about the paint issue and they are working toward a solution. So this issue is impacting more than just Lexus and GX.

Curious what their solution is. Once paint starts peeling off, there’s only 1 solution, outside of just melting the car down for scraps.

Wow surprised to hear that response BeeJ. I was thinking a repaint as well.
Take it to a good body shop to get some professional input on why this is happening.

Is it garage kept, or sitting outside all the time?

Only the hood has paint falling off.
There is no damage to the hood.
The undercoat is visible and has swirly marks in it. The undercoat looks OK and there is no undercoat coming off.
There is one large, approximately 5 inch diameter circularish area and several other smaller areas where the paint has just come loose from the undercoat all near the front of the hood. I see no physical damage other than the paint just coming loose and falling off.
Paint is starfire pearl.
I can just use my fingers and peal off more paint.
All other paint has no issues. It is only the hood.

What should I do ?

I’d say to contact lexus and create a case. There’s a paint issue with Blizzard white on GX470 and other Toyota makes that they are fixing, but only for certain years.

How confident are you that it has not been repainted? Have a body shop look at it to confirm.
pictures would be nice please.

Lexus has offered a warranty extension for manufacturing issues with several vehicles with white paint. My 2010 GX470 falls right after their GX460 extension, but I am having the exact same problem. Two auto paint companies have told me that the extensive paint flaking looks just like the issues from the Toyota and Lexus models that have been offered warranty extensions due to "a manufacturing issue". I spoke with Lexus today and they said my car does not qualify. The owners of the qualifying vehicles did not qualify at first either. They now qualify due to the large number of reports the company has received. Even those who already had their cars repainted are being covered. Has anyone here experienced issues with their white 2010 or later GX460?

Can you confirm if you are talking about a 2010 GX460 or a 2009 or older GX470? 2010 was the first year for the GX460.
