Default 2022 GX 460 Accessory Questions

Just took delivery of our 2022 GX 460 Luxury with Off Road package. It was supposed to have a factory / port installed trailer hitch.

Unfortunately, due to supply chain issues, the Lexus hitch is 6 months backlogged.

Anyone have thoughts on a 3rd party hitch or should we wait for the Lexus version?

Also, the new infotainment is great but the USB for CarPlay are in bad spots. Are there any good Wireless Apple CarPlay adapters that you’ve used?

Lastly, one of the first things I’m considering modifying is the exhaust. Thinking about the MagnaFlow Overland Series. Has anyone installed this? If so, what are your thoughts? https://www.magnaflow.com/products/19544-performance-exhaust-magnaflow-overland-series-cat-back-performance-exhaust-system

Regards

You may want to consider the Curt Class 3 hitch that is around $130 from Amazon. It's easy to install and if you don't need to haul a trailer over 5000 lbs this would be the way to go.

I’d like to pull the Max rating of 6500, so that won’t work. But thank you

The only Class IV hitch for the GX is made by Lexus so you’ll have to wait for it if that’s a requirement.

It’s already been in Stop Sale for 4 months and Lexus has no ETA on them.

Your dealer also has no idea when they’ll be back. If they tell you they do they are lying.

Since Lexus does not have a date when their class 4 hitch will be available, you may want to check salvage yards for a hitch.

Also, since the manual states that in order to use the 6500lb rating you have to have a weight distribution hitch most people will be limited to 5000lb anyway so the Curt will work.

I will be replacing my Curt when I can as I want the hitch to attach to the frame rails but the Curt is working fine and I’ve been towing 4000lbs recently helping my parents move.

I have 2302 miles on my GX now and over half of them have been with a trailer attached. One hill on my route causes the GX to shift down to 3rd(?) and run 4200rpm when going into a 20mph wind when loaded so I’m definitely getting the GX broken in

It toes very well even when it’s windy, however, when windy it pretty much stays in 5th gear so you get ~14mpg.

You have about 2000 more miles on your GX than me. I'm retired and the weather has not been to good for golf. I may not get my first free 5K mile check up until next fall when I plan on a trip out west.😄

Yeah this is way more than I drive normally but they need help moving so I’m going down there a lot.

I’d ask about the service as Toyota got pissy when we took our RAV4 in for its last free service 3 days after the 2-year anniversary of our purchasing it a couple weeks ago. I was rather disappointed in that by them.

Not a supply chain issue as our local dealer had the hitch in stock but was unable to sell them due to an unknown 'stop sale'. After a month or so of the 'stop sale' the dealer was ordered to send them back to Toyota/Lexus (US). There's a couple of trailer hitch threads on this forum for more detailed discussion.

What will you be towing that requires the full 6500lbs rating?

The Lexus hitch is very stout ... well worth the wait over alternatives ... and comes with a plug-n-play electrical receptacle. No matter your towing needs ... why not go with a hitch that matches the maximum vehicle towing capacity. Maybe pull one from a wrecking yard if you cannot wait ?

All GX's are wired with the 4-pin and 7-pin connectors so wiring isn't an issue with something like the Curt hitch.
