Default Help, 2021 CPO or New 2022

Hello all, I am considering a GX 460. Would you recommend a brand new 2022 with apple car play or save 8-10k and get a certified 2021?

also, how is the overall comfort, ride, and drive of this truck. I value a great ride with reliability. Lastly, would you get the premium, premium plus or the Luxury ? I am unsure about the nuluxe seat vs real leather .

Thanks in advance

Default Opted for New

I was in the same situation as you and opted to buy new. Used prices for 2020-21’s are not much less than new, plus the 2022 has upgraded infotainment.

For me the Premium was the sweet spot - I wanted heated rear seats for my daughter, plus the ML stereo. Not a fan of air suspension after paying to replace compressor, bags and relay in the past. YouTube user The Topher has many GX review videos and also prefers the smoothness of the stock coil setup.

Default Went New 2022

Having owned a 2004 GX470, 2010 and 2015 LX570s, I opted for the new 2022 due to updated infotainment (mounted my phone to both LXs to use my phone for Nav and entertainment. Integrated Apple Car Play n the 2022 was just that important for me. Car Play, or the google equivalent, means that your infotainment will take longer to feel old, IMO. You have the latest features of a phone’s OS you integrated into your vehicle.

If I could afford it, I would personally get into a 2022 myself. It seems like 2022 or 2023 will be the last year of the V8 before they switch to the turbo V6. There will eventually be a demand for the good ole days V8. Look at the market now for old FJ Cruisers, old broncos, old suburbans, old anything lol. The GX that everyone will want will be the one with the upgraded headlights, the upgraded brakes, and the prettier interior. If your holding on to it for a little while I’d buy new but if you don’t care about CarPlay and are just going to flip it in a few years then save the money and buy used.

Go new 100%. The only gripes I have with the truck have to do with ancient infotainment (and I don't even care about infotainment in cars but this one is ollllllllld) and having to drill into a touchscreen to control fan speed. You get the bonus of a much improved interior as well. No question at all go new - you get the last of a bulletproof platform in the V8 with a modern interior experience. The refresh will be good but will never have a V8 again and instead will have the twin turbo V6 and who knows what else.

As mentioned above the used prices for these trucks is bonkers and if you are financing you'll get much better rates with new.

Definitely go for 2022. These days, no matter how much you save on a CPO compared to new, you will still overpay for it. At least new one will be at MSRP (if you can escape the dealer add-on garbage). And you will get the new infotainment, which isn't perfect, but is light years ahead of the '21.

Myself, I would consider the CPO, esp if it was very low milage, in stock, and is super clean. If you can negotiate $10k or more between the two (in addition to avoiding the destination charge and the extra tax, that is close to $12k) then you are paying five figures for carplay and not having the wear on the CPO. Also the CPO will have a CPO warranty, which means after the factory runs out, you will get two years more with unlimited mileage and two years free maintenance (really this will prob just mean two free oil changes, but that is couple hundred bucks). I know a lot of people see the CPO warranty as no value but I am not one of those people (FWIW I have had three CPO lexus and have had a total of about $6k of work done under the CPO but YMMV). In addition, if you so choice you can extend, for a cost, that CPO warranty up to 5 more years beyond (again, prob not worth it, but it is an option that you wont get with the new.) So if you are risk averse, you could have a full Lexus warranty for 10ish years with the CPO - not saying you should, but just that you could.

What you should do is of course up to you. The benefit of the new GX is that it is new, and you have more control over exactly what you want. That also has a lot of value. If you don't really care about carplay, and plan on keeping the GX for a decade then consider the CPO based on the price difference, if not, maybe just get the new one if it is comfortably in budget.
