Default Wheel lug/nut torque:83 ft-lb or 76 ft-lb?

For quite a while, I have been using 83 ft-lb when I rotated tires on my 2016 GX460, according to the specs page https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gx-...l#post10672365. However, today by accident, I checked my owner's manual. Both the paper copy and electronic copy of my owner's manual says that the wheel nut torque is 76 ft-lb (photo below). Which torque is to use?

I would always default to the torque spec in the manual, although I cannot see that 7 ft/lbs more is going to make any difference

Best line in the movie "Mr. Mom" ...

So are you going to wire the house with 220 volts ? ... answer: "220-221 whatever it takes"

That difference is a rounding error. The majority of tire places go 85 ft-lbs.

The majority of tire places hit it with the rattle gun and possibly a torque limiting stick and call it a day. Most won't even have a torque wrench on site, lol.

How many ugga-duggas does it take?

My high school shop teacher would say, without a torque wrench tightening a bolt is either one or two grunts. A lug nut is two grunts.

Wow, I have been telling Costco tire center that the torque spec for gx is 83 as they use 76 on my receipt. The manager told me he was going to update central office to have it updated and it never happened. Now I know why

Need to give Costco some credit on this. My local Costco use limiting stick when they put on lug nuts and do hand torque with some serious torque wrench that is checked and calibrated on monthly basis. I seldom find it is over torquing when I was doing 83 checking with my craft wrench post rotations.

Have no idea how you "check" a torque value ... stiction (breakaway force) is always greater than the original torque applied.

I can often fell a bit of movement at 83 right before the click, assuming Costco does 76 during tire rotation, I do this about 50 miles post rotation to be safe.

If however i can not feel any of slack at 83 I would guess it is over torqued it happened before but not often with Costco tire center.

I set my wrench at 85.. My 2014 manual says 83.
Steel wheels require a higher value than alloy wheels..
