They removed passenger side mirror auto-dimming feature starting with 2021 MY, so only driver side mirror dims now. Absolutely senseless and ridiculous decision if you ask me... Also starting in 2022 (and I assume in 2023) they changed window controls trim on the doors from wood to plastic. In order to get real leather you must choose Luxury trim. All other trims are Nu-Lux.
Has anybody tried to install a pre 2021 mirror to get this feature back? I wonder if the wiring is there just need the dimming mirror installed ???? 🤞

Definition of "Reliable" ? It used to be that vehicle were for transportation ... so actually running, not having parts fall off or breaking down on the side of the road was THE measure. Today with all the Infotainment and Peripheral Gizmos ... any measure of "Reliability" has become totally polluted. For me, I wish the automotive industry would break these measures apart. Not being able to connect an iPhone is not the same as being stranded on the side of the road, or having an engine blow up. This is why Consumer Reports has even further evolved into a (non-expert) consumer cesspool of worthless data. Unfortunately most consumers do not seem to care about (core) function anymore ... it's now all about tech features and the biggest possible LCD screen. Our saving grace ... Toyota / Lexus has always played on the conservative side of not adopting trends until the technology is fully vetted.

1. Water pump replacement which will run maybe $1500 at the Lexus dealer and maybe $1k at toyota
2. Valley leak repair which maybe tends to happen after the water pump starts leaking. Budget maybe $2k for this
3 less common leaking at the transfer case which could be around $3k Lexus but maybe $1800 elsewhere.
I think all three of these issues to me, flaws based on my years of toyota ownership, could be expected to happen on models 2010-2023

can problem #1 and #2 possibly avoided by flushing the coolant at 60k miles, before it becomes acidic?
I believe I saw this in the carcarenut channel in YouTube but I may be wrong.
In any case. Thanks for the info. This is something to keep in mind. My plan with my GX is to keep it until it dies. At the very least 10 years.

Just my observations/opinion looking at failure trends here, other forums, and the GX related FB sites.
- Water pumps as listed do seem to trend at replacement around 100k miles… often radiator can too. My water pump on my ‘12 started leaking at 38k miles but was covered by powertrain warranty
- Coolant valley leaks for whatever reason seem to have tapered off after 2014/2015 models. Not sure if they started using a better FIPG process or what…. I have seen this leak continue on 3UR-FE though 2016/2017 on those 5.7L engines.
- Timing chain cover leak/weep… I can’t recall anyone reporting anything newer than say 2018 but this could be due to age/mileage or not as many owners looking. If affected these seem to rarely go major oil loss and one could mitigate with keeping area clean above AC compressor at oil change time.
- Higher mileage (175K+) AT issues do seem to be showing up more now. IMO.. this has been caused by the lack of an external AT cooler for the North American market. The A760F doesn’t differ much from the A750 in the 470 aside from an extra gear but most of those models had an external AT cooler and high mileage failures are rare or occur at 250k miles or more. I would mitigate this concern if you plan to keep long term with fluid maintenance and installation of external AT cooler. There are the exception models (top tier in Canada from 2010 and 2020+ with off-road package in US) that have an external cooler.

Not saying these don’t happen but occurrence is rarely reported in the 5.5 years I have been monitoring GX 460 problems.

Unless newer models were built by untrained Lexus employees then older GX will be more reliable 😁
The new infotainment is still new to the GX so we should expect some issues here and there.

I asked our Lexus dealer and was told NO, it won't be possible due to necessary wiring being absent...I found a 2020 mirror on E-Bay and wanted to take a leap of faith, but seller also told me it won't be compatible, so I wouldn't be able to return it due to that reason. So I gave up on it...

Models always evolve, no one has mentioned the addition of laminated side windows, in the 2021 and up models. You lose some features and gain others.

The GX is still made in Japan and is still very reliable. I feel very confident owning my ‘21 GX. Thats not to say that something will not fail but what vehicle is 100% reliable?
