Hey folks,
I wasn’t sure if it’s normal or not but depending on how much or little gas I use to accelerate from a stand still, sometime I get a bit of a drivetrain thump/ clunk. It’s only ever in first gear from a dead stop. Has anyone else experienced this? My next service is a few months out yet, hence the question. Thanks!

 

Yes its coming from the rear. Happens more often when its cold out or the car isnt fully warmed up yet. Not sure if it is normal?

 

... the Slip Yoke ... normal for all Lexus / Toyota "body-on-frame" platforms ... do a search in this forum the subject ...

Lubricate your Slip-Yoke per maintenance recommendation and this will subside in terms of frequency.

My previous 4runners would sometimes do this as well. I was hesitant to ask about it because the drivetrains are so different between the two sibling models (V8 & 6 speed auto).

 

Is the sound coming from the front, driver's side of the vehicle? I too have hear this clunk noise when accelerating from a stop or even when coming to a stop.

 

Mine comes from the rear, perhaps a different issue.
