Looks pretty clean for it to be new oil on top of old oil. But then again, if the GX is serviced regularly, the old oil would not be that discolored in the first place.
Back to square one... Could be new oil on top of old oil???
less then a quart overfill is fine, anything above a quart is worrisome. Currently looks in the margin of error, hopefully the dealership took care of it for you
General advice I look for is after checking the oil according to the car mfg, if the level is within double the distance from low to max leave it be. If anything above it, drain out some oil.
Get a Fumoto valve for your next oil change. First it makes oil changes easier. But this will allow you to drain some oil out in a more controlled manner than the factory drain plug if you get another overfill at the dealer. http://fumotousa.com/

Good suggestion... I was gonna suggest the same thing. Dealer overfilled on some warranty service work recently on another vehicle and I was able to easily drain the proper amount down with the Fumoto.
I've always be a DYI person. Have Jeeps, pickups, tractors, ATV's, etc. Think I'm maintaining somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 engines at any given moment.
Anyhow, this is my first Lexus. Wife picked up a 2019 GX460. Only Toyota product I've ever had was a 2001 4Runner Limited that give me about 15 years of problem free service before I sold it. I did meticulously maintain it, but I do that will all my stuff.
Normally I do oil changes at 5K unless it's something that sees severe service, then I go to 3K. I do NOT trust oil monitoring systems at all.
Anyhow, wife's mileage is approaching 5K, so I was nosing around to see what I'm looking at. Looks like Lexus made it a real PITA to change the oil on these rigs.
Normally I write the date, mileage, and what I did on the back of the oil filter box lid and slap that into the glove box, but I guess given the cost of this vehicle I should be a little more thorough.
I've bookmarked the metal filter cap. That looks like a no brainer. Anyone have a pic of how the fumoto looks installed on one of these? I run Fumotos on all of my street vehicles, and I have a feeling the wife won't be offroading the GX anytime soon.
I was hoping I might be able to use some of this Euro Spec Castrol Edge full syn 0W40 I picked up (a lot) last year on clearance at Wallyworld, but this thread kinda has me scared on voiding the warranty for using the wrong weight oil.
Actually Budbuilt is redesigning them so filter door will line up for the 4.6L. I will be getting the first set sent out. I think they were going out for power coating this week. It's still kind of a beta so you won't see it listed on their website or for general sale at the moment.
I might go with a shorter Fumoto with the skid plates but even the long nipple version is room between the small access cover.

Thanks for the pic and the PM! That visual really helps. Nice to see the skid still covers the fumoto but allows enough room to access the valve to flip it open/ closed. I'll have to put one on the list.
I got my first Fumoto valve about 15 years ago when my local oil change place stripped the drain plug threads on my 1993 Accord. They said "those threads just wear out over time". Needless to say no one has changed my oil on any of my stuff since, and to fix that oil pan I used a Fumoto with some blue Loctite. Drained all the oil overnight, screwed the Fumoto in the next morning with Loctite, and let dry 24 hours before I filled it with oil. Drove that car for another 100K without a drop leaking, and like the ease of the Fumoto so much that I put them on most of my other vehicles.
Hey guys i bought my GX late last year and its time for an oil change. Unfortunately, the car never came with the owners manual so idk how many quarts the vehicle takes? I just wanna be 100% sure before i go ahead and do the oil change.
