Oil and Filter Changes & Oil Filter Metal Retrofit Discussion
#61
There is a piece with about six bolts on it that the mechanic removed to get to the oil filter. He didn't have to remvove the skid plates. I'm sure if you took it to the dealer, they would show you what I'm talking about. I hope your wife doesn't look at your pictures LOL!

A picture is worth a thousand words! If anyone needs convincing NOT to change their own oil and filter, but to leave that to the service department at the dealership, one look at your photos will be enough. Thanks for sharing them.

P.S. I won't ask about your 'punishment' for dragging those parts inside and displaying them on what appears to be an oriental rug ... the consequences are too terrible to contemplate ;-)

you have to take the skid plate off...
Amazon sells an assenmacher speciality tool filter wrench that looks like its the right size. Price seems to be right. I got my filter wrench elsewhere for more, but even with the tight fitting wrench, you seem to have to put a lot of torque on it to move it to the point where it can be turned by hand. Might be tough to get loose with just the strap wrench version of the wrench.

Changing Oil for 460
Hey I was wondering if anybody on here can tell me how to change the oil on the GX 460. The car is brand new. I want to save money by changing it at home instead of taking it to the dealer and paying them to change the oil. I have a IS350 and I change the oil at home and my brother has a sonata and he changes the oil for his car too. So if anybody knows if there is a DIY on it or not I would be very grateful. Thanks in advance!
