I have a 2018 GX460. Just got a crack from a rock. How much would I probably pay at dealership?
First of all, you may want to check your insurance policy on windshield coverage and previsions. Not on my GX, but I had a recent event for my LX windshield replacement due to fly rock. My particular coverage is $500 deductible for windshield replacement. I have requested OEM windshield, it was replaced by Safeauto at my Lexus dealer. The OEM windshield in my case cost over $2000, plus required accessaries. I have heard for non-OEM windshield could have as cheap as $300 to $600 (installed). However, for Lexus, by using non-OEM windshield will void warranty and/or Lexus will not guarantee if sensors such as rain sensor for wipe, LDA (if equipped), Auto Highbeam Assist.
Just replaced the Gx windshield on the weekend, Lexus OEM costs 1475 all inclusive. Geico was covering only 509$ , I already had a deductible of 500 so they were going to pay only 9$ for the duplicate one. After some haggling got the OEM glass approved. Next renewal am surely not taking Gieco.
If you're going on trips, carry a windshield repair kit with you.
On my last trip, within 30 mins out the door, I got hit by a rock almost the size of a fist coming off a 18 wheelers. It hit so hard and felt like the whole windshield was going to exploded. The impact caused a huge crater almost the size of a q-tip. After I got home. I used the repair kit and was able to cover 60-70% of it and hope that it stay that way. Had I have the kit with me, I would have fixed it right away and it would definitely help the expansion.
Do you have a link to that kit? Went up on Amazon and wow... there are a lot of them. :-)
I used this one. Bought it twice already and used it on multiple cars with good result. My wife's camry had a long crack about 8" from the top (since the first week of ownership) and I was able to stop it from expanding for the last 4 years. Depends on the cracks, some got filled really well and could barely see, some you still can see. I only hope it doesn't turn into long running cracks
One note, when screwing in the base, don't do it very tight because too much pressure on the windshield may cause the cracks to expand longer. Just go gentle and increase a bit at a time until you feel tight.
I used the same one on my Explorer. It's held for well over a year now, even with the extreme heat that we get in Houston. Follow the directions and it is very easy to use. Highly recommend!
My 2016 GX460 has a cracked windshield and I need a replacement.
I have heard the OEM windshield is an "acoustic glass". Is there some way to go to a dealer from windshield replacement and get an OEM replacement windshield. I'm worried if I go to a normal glass shop the replacement won't be as good and the ride won't be as quiet anymore.

Does it have auto sensing wipers? if so, the gel inside the sensor must be replaced as well and I would recommend getting this done at the dealership to avoid headaches.

I used to live in Colorado where cracked windshields are typically an annual event. Based on that experience, I now always go with OEM windshields ... with insurance typically covering 70-80% given they price based on aftermarket glass. I have used non-OEM in the past ... with every one (in my experience) having subtle "optical ripples" that do not exist with OEM glass ... not bad enough to flag as defective, but somewhat distracting compared to OEM clarity.
I've got a Fuyao replacement windshield that was installed prior to my ownership. Works well, no leaks, and the automatic wipers work as they should. While the glass is one thing, I think it really comes down to the quality of the install(er).
