Is this the end of GX
Today Toyota announced that by 2017, 25 out of 30 vehicles would have Safety features like lane departure and auto stop as Standard. GX is one of the five vehicles which won't make this cut. Does that mean that by 2017 there won't be GX?

I could be wrong but I don't see Lexus getting rid of the GX.. Over the last year and a half they have popped up all over. Years ago I would rarely see one, now I see them all the time.
Hopefully Lexus will update it.

Must also mean the end of the 4runner, which is also such a terrible seller that it too will also be gone by 2017.

Toyota said 25 of its 30 Lexus and Toyota models will have a suite of standard safety features -- including automatic braking, pedestrian detection and lane departure warning -- by the end of 2017. Models that will get those features later include the Lexus GX, the Toyota 4Runner and the hydrogen-powered Toyota Mirai.

it doesnt have to be the end for BOF. They just need to put superchargers and turbos on their engines. Natural aspirated engines are becoming a thing of the past

If the GX continues to sell decently, there's a chance Lexus will continue to offer it. Like the LX, it is based on a platform that sells in higher numbers in other applications around the world and thus has lower development costs compared to a uniquely platformed vehicle. I don't know much about the RX, but considering that it shares a platform with the Highlander, which has three rows of seats, I would think a future RX could potentially serve as their 3 row crossover if they wish, especially with the NX slotting below.
It is possible, however, that if a 3 row crossover is developed it will push either the GX or the LX out of the lineup. The GX far outsells the LX, and the Land Cruiser is closer to the LX in interior luxury and design than the 4Runner Limited is to the GX, so maybe the LX will be the one to leave if necessary since at least some of those customers may move to the LC.

3 row RX does not have to preclude a GX or LX. The NX did not preclude the RX.
Toyota sells thousands and thousands and thousands of the land cruiser prado, the GX and the 4runner. They are cheap to build and high margin.

Of course the NX didn't preclude the RX. It's a class smaller and fills in a gap in the Lexus lineup compared to other luxury brands. I'm not saying that Lexus will absolutely replace the GX with a 3 row crossover, but I don't think it would be ridiculous of them to eliminate the GX if they decide to add a large crossover to their stable as it will creep into the territories occupied by the GX. Lexus hasn't said what they're doing with the GX, if anything, so it's all speculation anyway. GM sells full size SUVs right alongside full size crossovers, so it isn't unheard of to have both.

It may not be standard but my GX already has this system. I freaking hate it. A handful of times now, the car has beeped, tightened my seat belt and applied the brakes without me hitting the brake. If I need to do an aggressive move, I sure as spit don't want a robot braking for me.
