Brought my '15 with 17800 miles in for an oil change and they found my transfer case was leaking. They fixed it under warranty. $30 parts with $1100 labor. Ouch.

Did it happen to you?

Yes it did on my '04 with 95K miles and Lexus paid for it......without any questions.....find that interesting...that the same problem with a '15..they must know something internally that they keep it under wraps!

My 2010 GX 460 just hit 80,000 miles, and I just noticed a leak at the transfer case (or transfer case actuator). I have an appointment at Lexus tomorrow for them to take a look. It is just out of Warranty, so I am hoping Lexus will take care of me. I'll keep you all posted.

How bad is it leaking? Is it just weeping a small amount or leaving drops on the ground?

A pic would be super helpful, if you can get it (I guess it has to be on the lift to see?)

I didn't even know mine was leaking until the SA called and said so. So, I guess it was not dropping on the ground/ garage.

Not sure how similar the unit in 470 is to the one in 460 but leaks do occur more often than not from forum threads here and elsewhere. Some simple seal... apparently the best route is to pull TC off but expensive. It can be done cheaper but can often be damaged when removed in some specific way. If not drain plugs it's likely the $5 seal.

TC is fairly exposed and one can fairly easily crawl under rig and inspect with a flashlight....passenger side seems to be the easiest.

I changed the TC fluid on mine a few months back.

Lexus just called - It is a leaking transfer case, must be removed to reseal it. $991.00 complete.
Warranty expired at 75,000 miles, it now has 80,000, so I pay for all of it.

Transfer case - to the left is the front of the car, that's where i noticed the leak.

Wow. Only 5k over the warranty? I wished Lexus
would do better than waved their hands and sent you the invoice. That's sucks. Transfer cases don't normally leak very often especially on Lexus with 80k miles.

That is not nice, Lexus. How about cover it at least 50%?

Husker and BBQ you all are right. I'll ask if there is something Lexus can do. Power train failures should not occur at 80 K. I'll keep you posted.
This is the first thing to go wrong and the wife loves it, it's her car - so....

SpokeBroke: If Lexus will not work with you on cost do you have a reputable shop you can use? I bet you could save around $300.

Hi Tecman- You are right as usual, Toyota quoted me $650 for the same work. I'm a bit leery though as if this is screwed up a new transfer case could be huge bucks. Hopefully they will cut me some slack here.

This same transfer case is used in the Toyota 4Runner Limited IIRC....

I was looking at part number used for Transfer Case ---> 361006D401

Looks like same one used in Gen 4 V8 4Runner as well
