Default 4LO light flashing

My 4LO light started flashing, traction control light came on, and check engine light came on, and the engine immediately lost power but kept running. I managed to get to the side of the road safely. We had just had 7" of snow and it was now -5 F. I checked the 4LO and 4HI switch, seamed OK. No oil or coolant leaks, Levels were normal. Restarted the engine and tried moving the vehicle, still no power. Shut down and restarted. Warning lights still on and 4LO flashing, however full engine power restored, and the vehicle operated normally. No unusual noise or clunks.so continued 20 miles to our destination. Went to get lunch after 2 hours shut down. Situation still the same. 3 hours later started up and everything had returned to normal. Drove 40 miles home and all fine.

If anyone can share information on what was going on, I would be grateful. My car is a 2010 with about 106,000 on the clock. My guess is a sensor got covered with frozen slush that was all over the roads and gave false signals.

Thanks

To be on the same side, take car to any repair station that offers free engine code reading (if you don't have code reader) and ask them to provide you with codes that car recorded and then google them. Depends on the codes, someone my advice you on what may had triggered it.
Hopefully, it was in fact a false positive since car was ok afterward.
Good luck.

PapaLeo, thanks for the reply. I think you make sense. I can borrow a code reader at work.

Are you still having problems? I'm surprised no one mentioned it, but this could be the secondary air intake issue.

Thanks bd5400, but I already checked out the air pump and replaced the internal filter with an external one that was recommended on the forum. I have just been really busy lately and have not found time to have any codes pulled. Temps have warmed and have had no further problems. Have a Merry Christmas.

That doesn't necessarily solve the problem. It may prevent the pump from being damaged but the valves can still have issues even though you've replaced the filter. I wouldn't automatically rule it out.

True that there could be a valve problem after or before replacing the filter, but I thought a valve failure is permanent (could be wrong).
With so many threads and replys on this problem, I don't want to go back and read all of them.

Anyone have the valve problem come and go?

My oldest son is using the car for the holidays. I told him about the lights and he will call me (48 years old). As soon as I get it back I will have the codes read and post them to this thread.

I hate to say this, but it fixed itself. No problems or codes since I originally posted this event. It did happen on a snowy slushy road. Good luck.
