Well I just got the call from the dealership, I brought my 2010 GX460 in for a radiator leak which was covered under extended warranty. After they pressure tested the coolant system they found another leak from the valley plate gasket. This sits under the air intake manifold between the two cylinder banks (i.e in the "valley"). This is going to be an expensive job and the extended warranty just paid for itself. The dealer did confirm that he has seen this before, but wouldn't comment on how many or what model years.
My 2010 GX460 just hit 71,000 miles, I don't consider that high mileage so I think it has more to do with age then mileage. Maybe the gasket deteriorates with age?

Seems it is a prevalent problem in all the UR series engines (Tundras, Sequoias, LC200s, IS500s, etc.) and hopefully the new sealant material will fix the issue...
I haven't heard of anyone else report that leak location before on a 460...or I missed it. Water pumps failures are fairly common though. I had that one myself but it was fixed under the 6/70 factory powertrain warranty.
EDIT: I didn't realize this thread dated back to early 2017. Checked again today on mine and all clear.

Just had “leak from coolant jacket under the intake manifold” on my GX460 with 116k on the odometer. Cost was just under $2000.
Took my 2012 in for an oil-change this past march. Was told I had this leak. I said no problem, because I had extended warranty. Vehicle was at 106k. Service writer checked and my Extended Warranty expired 3 days prior to bringing the car in... after some conversations with Lexus USA, they covered the leak. I was told somewhere in the range of $900 of labor at Warranty rate.
Previously, I reported a rare rear main seal leak on my 2012 and yesterday I finally pulled the trigger on getting repaired. In the course of fixing it, the mechanic called today and said they also discovered a coolant valley plate leak. Sigh. At least it's 50% cheaper to get it fixed now while they're already doing the other work.
Researching this issue further and what's puzzling is that it's happening across so many different models that don't share parts. It does, however, look like they share a common design element where the seal consists of a metal channel filled with a silicone sealer extruded from a tube, not a preformed gasket or seal. This makes me wonder if the channel design itself is the problem or if the silicone compound was misengineered or faulty.

Good point. Just probably a pita to DIY and one has to spend $$ to get it fixed. Question is why does it happen to some and not to others when the design element is the same and or compound is the same
I'm not 100% sure but my current guess is that it's the compound going bad after the vehicles reach a certain age/mileage. If that's true, we should start to see an increase in this issue happening as more of these vehicles age and accrue mileage.

Any reports of this with the 120 series? Must be only on Japan v8 engines. Havent heard anything on the v6, and no TSB for it.
The domestic Toyota V8s produced in Alabama can experience it as well. 120s it seems mostly just water pumps but a lot of those issues are probably mitigated with the timing belt replacement. I've seen quite a number of posts about noticing the water pump on 120s beginning to weep at TB service time.
