Default NAV/VID bypass VAIS and connector question

I've seen a few threads on Beatsonic but nothing on VAIS. I wanted to be able to modify the NAV destination on the move, this also adds video capability while moving but I didn't care about that. I also didn't want to install any switches and the not splicing wires was a bonus. This module just plugs inline behind the radio and that's it. The phone hang up button is pressed twice quickly to activate or deactivate, and there's other modes for permanent or temporary enabling either NAV or VID. Took about an hour or so to install.

I placed the module in the area behind that blue connector in the top right. That connector wasn't connected to the radio, it was bundled up in the back too far to reach the radio, had never been connected.

That blue connector would connect here at the bottom blue mating connector.

So, 2 reasons I'm writing this

1 to let people know this module works well, and they are not making them (ULM-61 for certain GX460) anymore . The manufacturer is sold out, there are a few left on Amazon for about 130 or 140. I have no connection to the company, and each of the 3 times I called them the tech people were available and answered my questions about the module.

2 to ask, what's that not connected blue connector for?

I think that connector might be for the rear seat video...not positive though.

Does it work on all year GX or only 14+ up?

I went ahead and ordered one. Not sure when I will install but will at some point... looks to be an EOL'd item so wanted to grab before they are gone.

I assumed you had installed a bypass by now with as much as you have done to your GX. Looking forward to your thoughts on this product.
I am happy with my Beatsonic bypass with the button/switch.
While I haven’t looked into this model, I am a bit confused on how it is enabled and disabled with the double phone tap hang up.

Yeah... thought about it for a while and then fell off the radar. Interested to see how plug and play this one goes. I was looking at your old Beatsonic thread and it sounds like there was some programming with that one.

OP: Did you have to take off anything more than what is shown in video?

ULM-81 is used for '14+.. they do say through '16 but one would want to confirm with VAIS for '17+

No, I didn't have to, but I did!
That same shop has another video for a different year GX, and in that one they removed the shift **** and the surrounding section. I removed the shift ****, but did not disconnect the surrounding section. I attempted as in the first video, but then modified a little. This made it seem easier to get better leverage when pulling out the DVD changer. It was tight and I didn't want it to jerk out then break something. In the video its already loose, my reality was that the DVD section was in there very tight. I pulled that center console section towards me to unclip it, moved the shifter to get the shaft out of the leather cover, then shifted all the way down and set that section on the shifter.

Some notes since this is still fresh in my mind:
I ordered it Aug 7 PM, received it Aug 9 AM and installed it Aug 10. Anyone who ordered one might get it quicker than expected. I don't see any more available anywhere.
For removing some of the 10mm bolts, I used a swivel to get better angles.
A long socket extension made it easier to go through the gap in the steering wheel to get at the left side bolts.
I used very long needle nose pliers (like 12") to pull out the 10mm bolts on the bottom once they were loose. My socket wouldn't pull them out. In other projects I've put a few pieces of paper or tape inside the socket to help pull out the bolt (put the paper or tape inside the socket before even loosening the bolt if you do this way). If the bolts fall it will be extra work to recover them because they will fall under the center console.
I brought two big towels for this with the tools. This was to set the radio onto while disconnecting the connections on the back and not scratch anything. The radio weight, harness length and connector types made me believe that this was necessary and that it wouldn't be possible to hold the radio in one hand and disconnect stuff with the other.
I'm glad I watched both videos, made it more clear what I could expect to do.
The proper tools made the job very easy. I would make sure to have the trim removal tools, a very thin edge one and also one with some leverage.

This and some towels

Thanks!

Yeah.. unsure if the place I ordered from still has in stock. The website claims it. If enough people make inquiries they may produce another production run. One can always hope.

Beatsonic gx460 nav bypass

Beatsonic version is also similar or better (no buttons needed to dvd bypass) http://www.beatsonicusa.com/nsd6223ep.html

If you drop a note in the vendor classified thread for beatsonic, they'll IM you a better price which will be very close to VAIS. So no need to jump on unknown retailers.

Good to know... I see that model is for '14+ and looks more plug and play than what their '12 model shows.

OP and myself have '12s
