Default Active Height Control Fluid

Hello all,

I reached out to a Lexus service advisor to see what maintenance needs to be done to my car, and to see the cost of the brake job I created another thread for.

They mentioned that I should replace the Active Height Control Fluid. Its a pretty large cost associated with this.

I was wondering if anyone had any insight on this maintenance? Is it something I should consider or just ignore for now. My car has 99000 km.

Thanks.

Not applicable to your GX... LX system has that IIRC

Thanks, my GX does have the rear height control though. Is that something different?

Mine does too...those rear bags are filled with air and the adjustable shocks are sealed. Either ignorant service advisor or they are trying to take advantage of a customer.

I would contact corporate... the dealer is a thief, plan and simple. No dealer should be THAT ignorant of their products!

Old thread, but trying to figure this out:

In my 2011 GX warranty and services guide it lists replacement of active height control fluid.

Can't find the 2011 guide, but here is the 2013 guide that lists it as scheduled service at 60k and 120k:
https://drivers.lexus.com/t3Portal/d...460_WSG_lr.pdf

In the 2016 guide, it is only mentioned as an inspection item:
https://www.lexus.com/pdf/service/GX_WSG.pdf

I wonder why there is this discrepancy. Is the warranty and services guide incorrect?

@Craigyyy this discrepancy does seem odd but everyone makes mistakes... the adjustable ride height for the GX is an air based system (there's a small compressor in the GX that controls the air bag pressure). The only other active ride height "fluid" I can think of is the KDSS system but I highly doubt the manual is recommending opening up or flushing the KDSS system fluid. That's a sealed system which dealers are afraid to service (because most owners do not keep the control module which is mounted to the driver side frame rail from rusting by coating if with fluid film).... the unit is hidden behind a small protective plate. If you read about owners swapping suspension on vehicles older then 3 years or so in the rust belt with KDSS you'll hear horror stories about this rusted kdss module (the screws need adjusted during and post suspension install).

I'd highly recommend every owner spend 30 minutes and inspect and clean their KDSS module for the longevity of their vehicle, especially where winter road treatments are used or near a salty ocean environment.

KDSS uses the same fluid as the AHC in LX 570 but haven't heard of anyone draining and refilling KDSS from a scheduled service standpoint unlike AHC systems which I hear should be serviced.

Well I'll scratch that one off the list then.
