Retrofit OEM Radar Cruise
MOD IS COMPLETE - REVIEW THREAD FOR IMPORTANT POINTS.
Hello All,
I am attempting to add Radar Cruise Capability to my 2011 GX460 Base.
I have bought the radar compliant front emblem, steering wheel controls, the Driving Support Computer (88150-60030), and the Millimeter Wave Radar Sensor (88210-60140 - Part number for a 2013+ Radar Sensor, the 2011 uses 88210-60100). My vehicle fortunately has all of the wiring pre-wired.
Today I installed the sensor, computer, and wheel controls.
When I start the car I immediately get an error saying the Pre-Collusion System (PCS) has an error. This is expected because I do not have any of the PCS components installed. Any idea how to stop this from happening?
When I press my cruise control button the central screen shows "Radar Ready" - which to me is a great sign. Unfortunately, once I start driving the "Radar Ready" goes away and a "Check Cruise Control System" takes over.
I evaluated the errors with an OBD scanner and this is what it found.
1. Front Radar Sensor Region Code Mismatch
2. Lost Communication with Pre-Collision Module
3. Lost Communication with Object Recognition ECU
4. Lost Communication with Driver Seat Module
The first error code is related to the Radar Cruise Control Sensor. This was somewhat expected since I received the sensor from a member of ClubLexus who got it from China. In an attempt to fix this issue I took the Radar Sensor from an American Toyota Avalon, but the code returned after clearing - I am not sure why? The Driver Support Computer I bought came from a 2011 GX460 from Canada - do I need to buy a Canadian Radar Sensor?
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Added steering wheel controls
Wiring in vehicle from factory, had to move another computer module out of the way to install the driving support computer. This is behind the glove box
The new computer in place, bolt was already there so you don't need to buy one.
The wiring attached
Pre-Collision is the first warning I get when I start the car
But Radar Initially appears ready to go!!!!

Sounds like you purchased the first radar from hzhao. He did the most with this project.
Out of curiosity did you pick that 88150-60030 off of eBay a few weeks back? They had one up there for $199
You may want to pull down the FSM for 10-13. Unfortunately this is one of those trial and error kind of projects.

Yep. That is where I got the sensor. I also did get the driver support computer from Ebay for 199. I have been attempting to do this as cheaply as possible, which is why I have tried available used Radar Sensors. So far I have spent 900 dollars on all of the parts. If I need to get a 2010-2013 sensor (88210-60100), then the cost will balloon by 1400 dollars.
Will check out the FSM and update as I make progress.

wow friend u picked up a complicated task.
I am sure u know that whole system is tied into the brakes acceleration and radar system.
How do u manage to crack toyotas code? Unless you know the computer system in and out, there is no way to do this.
sounds like you didnt get the PCS button under the dash is my guess, but good luck programming the whole mess.
Who installed this on their GX? Keep away from me on the highway please.....
If you want one with the whole PCS system, u can take my gx for 40K.

Thanks for all of the replies.
After more research I think that I have all the correct parts at this time. The issue that I have is likely related to calibration of the radar sensor. Here's a video discussing it below.
I will update the thread once I have the system calibrated at a body shop/dealer.

Looks like you have all the hardware pieces. Have you also updated Driver Support ECU to 020 for MTS mod? I know 10-13 US models with radar cruise function with stock 010 but who knows. I am doubtful the 020 would be needed for this system to function though as it is only used for cruise control cancel. I think PCS switch is a simple defeat switch. I will look in my paper bound wiring diagram book as well.

have you actually tried the radar feature on a GX? just wondering if its any good. Ive heard others say that on their non-GX vehicles they absolutely do not like it.
a car passes them, theirs slows down. then the guy behind them passes, they slow more. then they turned it off
i am not familiar with the GX version. hope it works well considering the complexity of the mod.

Here is an update for the project.
I still haven't been able to get the GX to play nice with the USED sensors I have bought. Techstream is shown below.
TECHSTREAM ERROR CODES
The P1570 code have these instructions for clearing. Courtesy of ACRAD
When I follow these instructions I get this on the display screen
This will display on and off for as long as I have the car on. I have left it going for over 30 minutes and it has not stopped. Not sure how much time it needs to do this? or if it is just not able to complete the task?
Once I drive faster than 25mph, even after clearing the errors, I get this error again.
What could be the cause of this issue?
I have a few thoughts.
1. The radar sensor is not compatible with my car. I have not been able to find the exact part number that matches the 2010-2012 GX460 on the used market. It is PN 88210-60100 (radar sensor and bracket). The parts I have are PN 88210-60140, and another one from a Toyota Avalon.
I thought these would work. The actual radar sensor itself is the same for all of these vehicles.
Here is the PN for the radar sensor itself.
And here is the PN listed in the 2011 GX460 owners manual
They are the same.
Any thoughts?

Another issue with this project is that I continue to get the PCS error codes, even with the PCS switch being in the off position.
There appears to be 2 ECUs that the car checks for the PCS system. The tech stream labels them Pre-Collision and Pre-Collision 2. I am only able to check the Pre-Collision 2, as it appears that I don't have the Pre-Collision(1) ECU. I think this ECU is the seatbelt control ECU.
I found one of these on EBAY for 100 dollars so I purchased it today.
Now that I have this ECU coming, I think that all ill need to completely ADD Pre-Collision to the GX460 is to swap out the seatbelts to the ones with pre-collision and to get either the used radar sensors working or to buy a new one and calibrate it.
