Default I wonder if this EOL Safety Connect in some models?

Lexus Enform EOL 10.31.2022 for 2010-2018 models

3G likely is used in the 10-13 models. Not sure if they upgraded to 4G in '14+ models

https://www.ccjdigital.com/sunsettin...ts-to-migrate/

With sunset of 3G networks, tech suppliers focus on migration

Generally, telematics and IoT devices sold in 2018 onward use 4G LTE modems. For companies that use older devices, the 3G network coverage they have relied on for critical driver and vehicle status information may start to deteriorate.

Verizon has already announced plans to shut down its 3G service after 2019 and AT&T recently said it expects a 3G shutoff to be completed by 2022.

To that end, Verizon stopped accepting new 3G-CDMA subscriptions to its network after June 30, 2018, and AT&T blocked new 3G-GSM activations starting this year.

I am going to open a case with Lexus to find out.

EDIT: Lexus Chat Case didn't divulge any further details.

So you're saying that Safety Connect will no longer connect...at some point?

Would a later 4G module be a PNP option?

That is what I am trying to find out, I remember GM went through similar issue with OnStar in the analog to digital transition. Some vehicles could be retrofitted and some could not.

Perhaps similar scenario as the former Lexus Link?

The situation is not as dire as it may appear. There are several critical systems that run on 3G that cannot be upgraded, so the major telecoms agreed to continue to support the existing customers. At some point, parts will become unavailable and the system will degrade to a point to a point where it can only be supported in certain markets.

There are still some major markets where 2G is still up and running - and being used. Telecoms were initially shutting down 2G in 2015, but delayed because of the requirements - AT&T shut down in 2017, VZW will shut down this year and T-Mo has extended (for the third or fourth time) to the end of 2020.

They may not be taking new customers but 3G ain't going anywhere anytime soon.

IMO: While it will still be available In some markets or heavy urban areas coverage could be significantly reduced in fringe areas where needed most... depends on provider though and locale.

Without a doubt. Given the media coverage discussing the impending doom of 3G, Toyota/Lexus must be working on a resolution but I doubt that you'll get a usable response from customer service.

One of my 2G devices, that worked fine in DC just last week, was DOA in St Louis a year ago.

And you are clearly correct - you don't need this service in a metro area, you need it in the boonies.
