Lightbulb #RAHC Components & Functions / Questions / Comments / Problems - #air #bags

I may just proactively replace the air bags when I get close to 90-100K miles. They are cheap at $156 for the pair.

Obviously other things can go wrong and I will go full on conversion if those occur but it sounds like small leaks develop & overwork the compressor to failure. Of course this may not happen at opportune time as others have stated. I guess I should check the FSM for the main compressor fuse so if this ever happened to me out and about I could at least suppress further damage to the system.

Default Air suspension trustworthy and reliable?

I'm looking at a few GXs in the 2015-17 years. The Luxury trim clearly has some nice add ons over the Base/premium.

But I'm wondering whether the air suspension is an add on that is reliable long term or whether its going to be a source of constant visits to a shop (arggh dealer) due to problems like being unable to maintain ride height, compressor failure or freezing in winter.

TIA

Topics been discussed plenty of times. Long story short, 2012 with 117k, no problems with mine. TX vehicle though, driving environment may have something to do with it. Remember, it's a Lexus, not a Mercedes.

With my previous GX (2004 GX470), after 12 years and over 120K miles, no problem.

Had an 05 Sequoia with 205k with the air suspension and all parts were original. I know it’s not the same car/system, but I have confidence that Toyota knows what they’re doing with this “feature”

While all the GX 470's had the system only the 10-13 and '14+ Luxury models have it. Failure reports are very few and far between on the 460. One has to dig hard for hits. Even the aftermarket parts are relatively cheap. Both bags can be purchased for like $100 and I have seen aftermarket compressors for around $250.

I had 137k miles on my 2012 460 with quite a few loaded up off-road miles on it and never had a problem with the air suspension. That said I pulled out the air bags and installed springs a couple of weeks ago.

You pay to play. That being said, in the air suspension market, the longest lasting units are probably made by Toyota.

I need help guys . . .

I've got a 2015 GX460 Premium . . . bought it used in August 2018 and everything was perfect, but since like January 2019, the suspension has been really stiff, giving a very uncomfortable ride. I feel every bump and hole in the roads.

Have tried every combination of the comfort - sport switch, no luck; Had it checked out twice with diagnostic equipment . . . no fault found.

What can I do to get this car comfortable again?
