I spent some time today reset everything, cleared all DTC codes (historical data) and used Techstream to set and unset some of the custom functions.
Not sure what happened but they work now. When I’m in GROM screen and shift to R, if there’s a obstacle blocking the rear sensors, the warnings beep, the icon on the mini display flashes, but the icon on the backup camera screen doesn’t flash. It just stays solid yellow.

If I’m on any other screen like Climate or NAV then shift to R, the warnings beep, the icon on the mini screen flashes, and the icon on the backup camera screen also flashes. So looks like in GROM screen, it doesn’t get the signal 99.999% of a the time. The reason for 99.999% is it flashed ONE time when I was testing and never again.

Here’s a video I made

One interesting thing. With Vline2, the NAV diagnostic shows this red box for the rear camera and USB port. I don’t recall seeing these before when I checked.

Playing around with Car Launcher Free app. I bought the full version but there are some bugs and most of the features in the pro version couldn’t be used in the GX nor available so staying with the free one for now. Will revisit it later.
I also downloaded Torque Lite and it works with the genuine ELM327 Wifi dongle that I have. It wouldn’t work with the Vpeak one, which works fine with OBDFusion on IOS.

Limited modules on the lite but I just want to see what it has. The limitation of the touch screen made arranging the icons a bit of a task.

A keyboard like this

Amazon Amazon

Is nearly essential for set up of any third party launchers with the Vline.

I loaded the CarWebGuru overlay and the Agama Car Launcher--I did not keep CWG--it didn't seem to work as well... I paid for the upgrade on Agama--it is pretty neat--functions great and looks better--only caveat thus far is it does not "see" that I have Satellite connectivity...

I never could get an ELM Bluetooth scanner to work--waiting on the one from GROM now.

I just got my Grom unit in the mail with the latest group buy. Mine did not come with a separate mic and has a 3.5mm connector built into the harness saying it will use the stock microphone. I'll install it this weekend to test.

Edited to add a picture of the wiring harness:

Curious--what year is your GX?

I have an 11 and my kit came with an external mic... would way rather use the integrated one--as the external is pretty homely.

Same here too, 2010 with extra mic. Where does the 3.5mm plug into, the vl2 unit?

Edit: I see that is is indeed plug into the VL2 and loop back to the main connector to use the oem mic. I would love to have this instead of running another cable. I wonder if Grom will send the replacement cables.

Mine is a 2016 so must be something they changed with the new model.

Ahh probably different years and radio/nav design. Let us know how it is after you installed it. One tip, once you have it hooked up and before putting things together, connect wifi or hotspot and run a version check and update vline and firmware if there’s any. You want to make sure the upgrade doesn’t brick the unit.

Did you reach out to Grom about your 2011? I have a 2011 as well, and if I can get settled enough with my radio unit issues, I might take part in the group buy I signed up for. Using the OEM mic would be a huge incentive!

So I was impatient and installed it last night. Everything integrates with the stock mic perfectly. Pretty happy with it so far, I did have it freeze and had to reset it so I would like to to hardwire a switch to do this easily if it becomes more common. Still need to play with it more, but works great so far and was an easier install that I was expecting. I velcroed it to the top of my glovebox, but don't look as clean as I'd like so ordered one of these to see if I can clean up the glove box a little more:

not an optimal reply:

Hello Andy,
We currently do not have any support for factory microphones built into the VLine2 harnesses.
You might be able to splice into it and put a 3.5mm jack on the end of the factory microphone, but that still would not guarantee it would work or sound good.
Thanks,
Heath

I'm guessing they mean they don't support it on certain model years as it seem from the post above it is supported. Thanks for the follow up!
