I have an appointment with the dealer on Wednesday, but wanted to get an idea of what I may be in for. I purchased my GX460 with around 127k miles on it, now has about 137k (6 months later). About a month after I purchased it I got a CEL and some codes indicating a timing issue with the passenger side VVT. I replaced the solenoids and the problem went away.
Last week while on a road trip the dash lit up again. This time for the drivers side. So I replaced the drivers side solenoids (should have just done that in the first place).
Well that did not solve the problem. Currently I have the following codes:
P0012 (confirmed, permanent and pending) - Camshaft Position 'A' Timing Over-Retarded Bank 1
Other Pending codes:
P0022 - Camshaft Position 'A' Timing Over-Retarded Bank 2
P0024 - Camshaft Position 'B' Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance Bank 2
When I clear the codes I sometimes get 2 minutes of drive time before they appear again, other times I get 8 hours. It's really intermittent, and I can not seem to find a specific condition that it is occurring in (seems to happen more when city driving, but has happened at speed on the freeway as well)
The engine sounds good, is idling fine, economy has been good, and heat stays consistent and in range.
PO told me the timing chain had been replaced at 90k, but i do not have any documentation of that. Is it possible it's time for a timing chain?
Do you know if the PO replaced it at Lexus dealership? Did you try using VIN on Lexus owner site would pull up the record? https://drivers.lexus.com/lexusdrivers/
I think its very possible the chain was not replaced. It was something he said in pretty casual conversation when I was asking what maintenance had been done. He was not very knowledgeable about car maintenance, and seemed to just take it in and the recommended intervals. I had not realized at the time that the 460 did not get the timing chain replaced at the same interval as the 470.

The reason is that the 470 (4.7 UZJ-FE engine) has a timing belt, and the 460 (4.6L 1UR-FE engine) has the chain. I'm not aware of any service interval for the chain? If the chain WAS done, and maybe off a tooth, you'd think it would have shown up in your first 20K miles after the "service". Sorry, that's all I've got...

Also, the video didn't mention any codes, at least I didn't catch him talking about any. @agent9 what was the outcome?
